Manchester United FPL: Who To Own, Captain And Avoid

This is the version of Manchester United FPL: Who To Own, Captain And Avoid from 11 September 2026, kept for the record. The picks and the numbers have moved since. The current version →

United: All the Value Is at One End of the Pitch

Here's the shape of it: our model has Manchester United carrying the second-best attack in the league — and the 17th-best defence. One club, two completely different propositions. The fixtures split the same way: a very kind run for the forwards, a rough one for anyone hoping for clean sheets.

So ignore the badge and buy the end that works.

Bruno Fernandes tops our list and it's not close — he's on penalties, free kicks and corners, he never gets subbed off, and our projections have him around 8–9 points a week across the next six. He can go enormous on his day. The catch is the price: £12.0m is proper premium money, and with roughly 4–5 in 10 managers already on him, he's more insurance than edge. You own him so he can't hurt you.

The actual value pick is Mbeumo. £7.9m, second on set pieces behind Bruno, nailed, and projected for about 7 a week — that's premium output at a mid-price tag, and only about 2–3 in 10 have caught on. Cunha sits at the same price but our model ranks him clearly below Mbeumo, and I don't pay the same money for the lesser share of the attack. If you want a deeper cut, Tielemans at £5.9m starts every week, is third in the penalty queue, and hardly anyone owns him — a proper enabler who actually plays, which is the whole point of an enabler.

The defence? Leave it. Maguire, Shaw and Lammens are all cheap and all starting, which normally gets my attention — but a bottom-four defence facing City, Spurs, Bournemouth's attack and Chelsea away is not where clean sheets live. Cheap only counts as value when points come with it.

One honest caveat: the kind run opens with MCI (H), which is nobody's idea of a warm-up, and closes at Stamford Bridge. If Bruno blanks in week one, don't panic — FUL (A), TOT (H), LEE (A) and BOU (H) are where the hauls are coming.

The call: buy into United's attack now — Mbeumo if you're building for value, Fernandes if the budget stretches. Don't touch the defence at any price.
