Brentford FPL: Who To Own, Captain And Avoid

This is the version of Brentford FPL: Who To Own, Captain And Avoid from 22 September 2026, kept for the record. The picks and the numbers have moved since. The current version →

The call — Our model's favourite way into Brentford over the next six isn't a forward, a winger or a set-piece merchant. It's the goalkeeper. That tells you everything about where the value sits at this club. Brentford grade out as a genuinely good side at both ends — top-six attack, top-six defence by our reckoning — but the fixtures pull the two…

One squad, picked before a ball was kicked and run for six gameweeks on three transfers — no hits taken. Scored on FPL’s own results.

Your name and your FPL team name. That is all it takes, and we will have your answer before you have finished reading this sentence.

No FPL password, ever. We only read what FPL already publishes.

So the money goes in the back. Kelleher at £5.0m tops our list for the whole squad — hardly anyone owns him (well under 1 in 10), he's started five of five, and a keeper behind a mean defence with soft fixtures is the definition of quiet, reliable points. Ajer is the same story in outfield form: £4.5m, starting every week, owned by almost nobody. That's an enabler who actually plays, which is the rarest thing in FPL and the whole point of a cheap defender.

The honest caveat: nobody in this squad is what I'd call bolted-on. Even the regulars carry a bit of rotation risk, and Kayode has already missed a start. That's the tax on Brentford ownership — you're buying good odds, not certainties.

As for the shiny end — Thiago at £7.8m has the penalties and the pedigree, but he's priced for his best week, not his usual one, and this is precisely the run where the attack gets squeezed. Villa away, Brighton away, Liverpool at home. Schade is the better attacking route if you must have one — cheaper, second on pens, ranked above Thiago by our model — but even he's a maybe rather than a must.

The call: buy the defence, not the attack. Kelleher is the pick — a genuinely strong six-week keeper at £5.0m that about 19 in 20 managers don't have — with Ajer the budget defender if you'd rather spend £4.5m. Bench them for Liverpool at home if you've got cover; start them everywhere else. Leave Thiago on the shelf until the fixtures turn.
