Arsenal FPL: Who To Own, Captain And Avoid

This is the version of Arsenal FPL: Who To Own, Captain And Avoid from 7 September 2026, kept for the record. The picks and the numbers have moved since. The current version →

Arsenal: buy the back door, not the front

The meanest defence in the league has just been handed Sunderland away, Brighton away, Leeds at home, Forest away and Everton at home before Anfield finally spoils the party. That's five clean-sheet chances in six, and our model rates Arsenal's back line the best in the country — top of all 20. If you're buying into Arsenal over the next month and a half, you buy the defence. Full stop.

The attack is a different conversation. Our projections have Arsenal only mid-pack going forward — tenth of twenty — and the same fixture list that flatters the defence is rated a genuinely tough run for goals at the other end. Saka is the pick if you must have one, on penalties and free kicks and good for a solid return most weeks, but at £9.5m you're paying attacking prices for a team our model doesn't rate as an attacking force right now. Havertz at £7.5m sits bottom of our list — that's a striker priced for what he might do, not what he reliably does. Cheapy doesn't fund that.

So, the defenders. Gabriel at £8.0m is the model's top Arsenal asset — clean sheets plus a set-piece head, and he starts every week. About 1 in 4 own him. Calafiori is £2.3m cheaper but nearly half the game already has him, so there's no march to steal there. The quiet one is White: £5.5m, nailed, owned by fewer than 1 in 10, and projected within a couple of points of Calafiori over the six. That's the enabler that funds a premium elsewhere and never blanks on you. Raya at £6.0m is a perfectly sound route in too, if it's the keeper slot you need filling.

The honest caveat: three games into the season is a small sample, and "kind fixtures" includes trips to promoted-but-lively Sunderland and a Brighton side that makes everyone work. And that Liverpool game at the end of the run is a write-off for shut-out purposes.

The call: buy Gabriel if the £8.0m is there — he's the ceiling and the floor in one shirt. If it isn't, White at £5.5m is the best-value nailed defender on this page and hardly anyone has him. Leave the Arsenal attack alone until the fixtures turn.
