Tottenham Hotspur FPL: Who To Own, Captain And Avoid

This is the version of Tottenham Hotspur FPL: Who To Own, Captain And Avoid from 26 September 2026, kept for the record. The picks and the numbers have moved since. The current version →

The call — Spurs are the wrong way round this season — and the value knows it. Our model has Tottenham's attack down among the league's bluntest, second-worst in the division, and to make things worse the fixtures for their forwards are a slog. Their defence, though, sits comfortably in the top half, and the run of opponents is kind to a clean…

One squad, picked before a ball was kicked and run for six gameweeks on three transfers — no hits taken. Scored on FPL’s own results.

So where's the money? The tables above give you the numbers; here's what they can't tell you. The value is stacked at the cheap end of the defence. Van Hecke tops our list — under a fiver, started five of the last six, hardly anyone owns him (well under 1 in 10), and he's the sort of pick that quietly banks 4-6 most weeks with the odd clean-sheet-plus-bonus double when Ipswich come to town. Kinsky is the same logic in gloves: bottom-price keeper, starting, and already sitting in nearly 2 in 10 squads because managers can count.

Now the dry bit, because there always is one. Nobody in this Spurs defence is properly nailed. Van Hecke, Van de Ven, Robertson — all rotating around each other, all on four or five starts rather than six. And note the cautionary tale in the table: Senesi is the most expensive defender listed and has one start. That's what paying for reputation instead of minutes gets you. Van Hecke is the one actually clearing the line every week, which is why he leads the list despite being the cheaper man.

The attackers? Leave them. When the second-bluntest attack in the league meets a tough run of fixtures, a £6.5m midfielder on three starts is not a value pick, it's a donation.

What changes the call: if Van Hecke drops out of the XI two weeks running, the whole case moves to Van de Ven at £5.0m — same clean sheets, slightly worse minutes record.

The call: buy Van Hecke at £4.9m as your route into this defence, with Kinsky the pick if it's a keeper you need. Don't touch the attack.
