Tottenham Hotspur FPL: Who To Own, Captain And Avoid

This is the version of Tottenham Hotspur FPL: Who To Own, Captain And Avoid from 22 September 2026, kept for the record. The picks and the numbers have moved since. The current version →

The call — Spurs: the value is all at one end of the pitch Our model has Tottenham's attack second-worst in the league right now, and their defence comfortably top-half. Read that twice, because it's the whole article: everything worth buying at this club plays behind the ball, and everything shiny in front of it should be left in the shop window.

One squad, picked before a ball was kicked and run for six gameweeks on three transfers — no hits taken. Scored on FPL’s own results.

Your name and your FPL team name. That is all it takes, and we will have your answer before you have finished reading this sentence.

No FPL password, ever. We only read what FPL already publishes.

Start with the fixtures, because they cut both ways. MUN (A) and CHE (A) are grim for a blunt attack, but Coventry, Palace and Ipswich all come to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in this stretch, and Leeds away is winnable. That's a genuinely kind run for clean sheets — which is exactly the currency Spurs are dealing in.

So who carries it? Our model's clear preference is Van Hecke, and I like the logic: he's the man who's actually been on the pitch, five starts in a row, at a price that leaves your budget alone. He's projected to be the best points-per-pound pick in the whole squad over the next six, and only about 1 in 10 managers own him. Kinsky is the same story in gloves — five starts, dirt cheap, the obvious bench keeper who might not stay on your bench. Robertson is the sneaky one further down the list: cheapest of the lot and on corners, which is a rare bit of attacking interest at that money.

Now the deadpan caveat, and it's a real one: nobody in this defence is properly nailed. Not Van Hecke, not Kinsky, not Van de Ven, who's rotated in and out. This is a crowded back line and Thomas Frank's teamsheet giveth and taketh away. If Van Hecke gets benched twice in a fortnight, the whole thesis wobbles. That's the risk you're paying under five million to accept.

And the attackers? Sávio and Bentancur are projected roughly what a good cheap defender gets, at higher prices, in the league's 19th-ranked attack, without guaranteed starts. That's paying for romance. Pass.

The call: buy Van Hecke as your budget defender for the next six — he's starting, he's cheap, and the home fixtures will do the rest. Kinsky if you need a keeper. Leave every Spurs attacker exactly where he is.
