Manchester United FPL: Who To Own, Captain And Avoid
The call — Hull away, Ipswich at home, Everton away. That's Manchester United's first three fixtures, and our model rates their run over the opening six as one of the kindest in the league for an attack that we rank fifth-best going into the season. When a top-five attack meets two promoted sides before September's out, you don't need to be clever. You…

The tables below tell you who to own. What they can't tell you is where the value actually sits — and it's all at the front end. Fernandes is the headline pick and, for once, the £12.0m tag buys exactly what a pragmatist wants: nailed minutes, penalties, free-kicks, corners, and a projection north of 30 points over six weeks. About half of everyone already owns him, which is what a floor that reliable does to ownership. He's priced for what he definitely does, not what he might do. That's rare at that price point.
Mbeumo is the sharper piece of business, though. £8.0m, on penalties if Fernandes doesn't take them, on free-kicks and corners too, and projected within a couple of points of his skipper. Roughly 4 in 10 own him, so he's already template — but template exists for a reason. Cunha at the same price is the quiet one: barely 1 in 10 have him, nailed, and good for solid returns most weeks in this run.
The back end is the caveat. Our model rates the defence a respectable sixth-meanest, but the clean-sheet fixtures are merely average — Man City at Old Trafford in GW4 and Spurs in GW6 will do that. Shaw at £4.5m is a perfectly fine nailed body, and Maguire's projection is honest for £5.0m, but nobody's buying United for shutouts. Spend your defensive money elsewhere and put United cash in the attack, where the fixtures actually pay.
One note on timing: the softest fixtures come first. Waiting until GW3 to buy in means missing Hull and Ipswich, which rather defeats the purpose.
The call: buy into United's attack now, before GW1. Fernandes if the budget stretches — the set-piece monopoly and minutes make him the safest premium on the board. If £12.0m is too rich, Mbeumo at £8.0m gets you most of the output for two-thirds of the price. Either way, get one of them in this week, not next.
