Manchester City FPL: Who To Own, Captain And Avoid
The call — City's best buy over the next six isn't the £15.5m man — it's the £7.0m one sitting a point and a half behind him. Our model has Foden projected within touching distance of Haaland across the next six gameweeks, at less than half the price, and hardly anyone owns him — fewer than 1 in 20 managers. Haaland, meanwhile, sits…

The case for City generally is simple. This is the league's sharpest attack on our numbers, and the fixtures are about as kind as they come — Coventry at home, Sunderland at home, Ipswich at home, with Anfield the only genuinely nasty trip in the run. The defence ranks around sixth-meanest too, so the clean-sheet picks aren't a gamble either.
Now, the pragmatist's questions. Haaland is priced for his big weeks, and you pay £15.5m for the privilege — he'll deliver, he's on penalties, he's nailed, but he's also the template. You gain nothing on the field by owning him; you only lose ground by not. Foden is the opposite: nailed, on free kicks and corners, projected for a genuinely strong return most weeks, and almost nobody has him. That's where a budget actually stretches.
The honest caveat: it's early, the starts column is thin for everyone, and Cherki — the other set-piece taker — has just the one start so far. He's the shinier name at £7.6m, but our model prefers Foden, and so do I: the man who takes the dead balls AND starts every week is the one you pay for. Anderson at £6.4m is a quietly decent third route in if funds are tight, and he's on corners too.
At the back, Guéhi at £6.0m is the pick of the defenders — nailed, sensibly priced, and with Coventry, Sunderland and Ipswich coming to the Etihad the clean sheets should follow. Gvardiol saves you £0.4m if every pound matters.
The call: buy Foden this week. If you already own Haaland, keep him and captain him at home to Coventry — obviously. But the transfer that actually improves your team is the £7.0m midfielder nobody else has bothered with. Get there before the price does.
