Ipswich Town FPL: Who To Own, Captain And Avoid

This is the version of Ipswich Town FPL: Who To Own, Captain And Avoid from 4 October 2026, kept for the record. The picks and the numbers have moved since. The current version →

Ipswich: value at the wrong end, but the £4.0m starters are real

Three £4.0m defenders, all nailed, all starting every week — that's the Ipswich pitch, and it's exactly the kind of thing I'm supposed to love. So let's be clear about what you're actually buying before you spend the money.

You are not buying clean sheets. Ipswich carry one of the leakiest defences in the league — 19th of 20 by our reckoning — and the run doesn't help them: Fulham at home is winnable, then it's the Etihad, Forest at Portman Road, Hull away, Bournemouth, and Spurs away. Our model calls that a tough stretch for shutouts, and I'm not arguing. Anyone buying an Ipswich defender for clean-sheet points is paying for something that isn't on the menu.

What you ARE buying is minutes at the lowest price in the game. Davis is the one the model likes best of the lot, and it's easy to see why a dry old soul would agree: five starts from five, never rotated, on free kicks, and projected for a steady trickle — roughly four points a week — at £4.0m. That's not a haul merchant. That's a defender who plays 90 every week and quietly funds a premium elsewhere in your squad. About 7 in 10 managers don't have him, which tells you the market is still sniffing around Diop instead — the model has Davis comfortably ahead, so follow the order, not the crowd.

At the other end, the attack is genuinely mid-table — stronger than the defence by some distance — and Emersonn is the interesting one: a nailed £5.5m forward, on penalties, owned by barely 4 in 10... sorry, barely 4 in 100. Hardly anyone has him. The fixtures are rough for attackers too, though, so he's a third-forward punt, not a plan.

The honest other side: a cheap defender in a bottom-two defence will blank on clean sheets most weeks. You're buying the floor, not dreaming of the ceiling. That's fine — that's the job description at £4.0m.

The call: buy Davis as your set-and-forget cheap defender — he starts, he plays 90, he costs nothing. Emersonn if you need a budget forward who's actually on the pitch. Nobody else from Ipswich until the fixtures turn.
