Start with Davis, because the model does. He tops the whole list, he's started every week, he's on free kicks, and roughly 1 in 10 managers already own him. For the minimum price in the game, he's exactly what an enabler should be: a man who plays ninety minutes whether Ipswich are winning, losing or being taken apart. That's the value — not clean sheets. With Fulham, Forest and Bournemouth coming to Portman Road and trips to Manchester City and Tottenham in the same stretch, nobody should be buying an Ipswich defender for shutouts. You're buying appearance points and the odd bonus, and Davis delivers those more reliably than anyone else at the price. Diop and O'Shea start every week too, but the model prefers Davis and so do I — same money, more ways to score.
The attack is where the romance lives and where I'd keep my wallet shut. Emersonn is the pick if you must — nailed, shares penalty duty, and hardly anyone owns him, about 1 in 3 among 100 if we're honest — but he's walking into a very tough run of opponents, and a mid-priced forward whose best fixtures are Hull away and Bournemouth at home is a hard sell. Enciso starts every week too, which is more than can be said for Clarke, who's on penalties but has only started twice. A set-piece taker who might be on the bench at kick-off is a trap, not a bargain.
The honest caveat: Ipswich's defence being this porous means even Davis's weeks are mostly twos and threes with bonus sprinkled on top. If you need your fifth defender to actually score, look elsewhere. If you need him to start so your money can work up the other end, he's close to perfect.
The call: buy Davis as your bench defender and forget about him. Pass on the attack until the fixtures turn.
