Ipswich Town FPL: Who To Own, Captain And Avoid

This is the version of Ipswich Town FPL: Who To Own, Captain And Avoid from 3 September 2026, kept for the record. The picks and the numbers have moved since. The current version →

Ipswich: the value's real — just not where 2 in 10 managers put it

Here's the awkward bit first: the most-owned Ipswich player in the game is the worst of their four £4.0 defenders. Nearly 2 in 10 managers have Diop; hardly anyone has Davis or O'Shea, and our projections have both of them clearing him by a distance over the next six. That's the template doing what the template does — buying the name it recognises rather than the one that scores.

The shape of this team matters. Our model rates Ipswich as one of the league's sharper attacks — top six — sitting on top of one of its leakiest defences, down in the bottom three. The fixtures follow the same split: a kind run for goals, a grim one for clean sheets, with Liverpool at Portman Road and a trip to the Etihad lurking among Palace, Everton, Fulham and Forest.

So why is a £4.0 defender still the way in? Because at that price you're not buying clean sheets — you're buying a nailed starter who never blanks on minutes, and in Davis's case one who's on free kicks and corners too. That's a defender funding a premium at the other end while quietly returning 3–4 a week, with the odd bonus scrap from set plays. O'Shea projects a touch higher and is even less owned — about 1 in 20 squads at most. Take either; just don't take Diop, whose price is identical and whose points aren't.

The attack is where the upside lives, if you've got a spare midfield slot. Maeda, Núñez and Enciso are all nailed, all owned by essentially nobody, and all projected around four points a game through this run. Núñez at £5.0 is the value pick of the three — he's on free kicks and corners, which is the kind of guaranteed involvement I like at that price. Any of them can go big in the home games against Fulham and Forest.

The honest caveat: it's early, the sample is two starts each, and a manager reshuffling his back four would change the maths at £4.0 fast. And with this fixture list, budget the clean sheets at roughly one or two across the six, not more.

The call: buy Davis or O'Shea as your set-and-forget £4.0 starter, add Núñez if you want the fun end cheap — and if you're one of the 2 in 10 holding Diop, move him on.
