Foden Vs Rogers: The Better FPL Pick
The call — Foden or Rogers? My numbers make this one of the clearer calls of the week. At £7.0m, Foden projects for roughly 47 points over the next six gameweeks — nearly eight a week — and fewer than 1 in 10 managers own him. Rogers, half a million dearer at £7.5m, comes out around 38 points over the same stretch, and…
The fixture case. Both players have a genuinely kind run, so neither wins on schedule alone. Foden gets Coventry (H), Sunderland (H) and Ipswich (H) — three promoted or struggling sides at the Etihad — around trips to Manchester United, Liverpool and Aston Villa. Rogers' Chelsea run is arguably softer end to end: Hull (H), Brentford (A), Bournemouth (H), Everton (A) and Tottenham (H), with only the Arsenal away trip looking nasty. On fixtures alone you'd call it even. On projected output, Foden clears him by a comfortable margin anyway — my numbers see him outscoring Rogers by around nine points across the six weeks despite the tougher away days.
The honest caveat. Foden's risk is the one it always is at City: Pep can rest anyone, any week, and a couple of benchings would eat into that projection quickly. Rogers is the steadier week-to-week hold — usually good for five or six, rarely blanking badly — and that's exactly why a quarter of managers own him. But steadier isn't better here. Foden is the one who can go massive on his day, and those three home games against Coventry, Sunderland and Ipswich are precisely the fixtures where City midfielders haul.
The value angle matters too. Rogers costs more, scores less on my numbers, and gives you zero edge on the field because everyone already has him. Foden at £7.0m is a price bracket steal — if he hits anything like that projection, he'll be one of the best points-per-million midfielders in the game, and you'll have him while most of your mini-league doesn't.
My call: buy Foden. If you own Rogers, this is a legitimate sideways move that banks £0.5m and upgrades your points at the same time. Coventry at home first up is exactly the fixture to start the clock on him.
