Coventry City FPL: Who To Own, Captain And Avoid

This is the version of Coventry City FPL: Who To Own, Captain And Avoid from 24 September 2026, kept for the record. The picks and the numbers have moved since. The current version →

The call — Coventry: buy the back, ignore the front Here's the whole Coventry story in one line: our model has them as the league's bluntest attack — dead last, 20 of 20 — sitting in front of a defence that ranks in the top half. Whatever value exists at this club, it lives at the wrong end for glory hunters and exactly…

One squad, picked before a ball was kicked and run for six gameweeks on three transfers — no hits taken. Scored on FPL’s own results.

And the fixtures agree. Once you get past Newcastle at home and Spurs away, the run softens into Fulham, Sunderland, Everton and Palace — the kind of stretch where a promoted side that defends properly can bank two or three clean sheets. Our projections rate their shut-out chances well; their goal-scoring chances, not so much. So the question isn't whether to buy Coventry, it's who.

The answer is Bobby Thomas, and the reason is boringly simple: he's the cheapest a defender gets, he's been starting week in week out, and he tops our list of Coventry assets. Nearly 1 in 10 managers have already worked this out. Jay Dasilva is the same price, has started just as often and almost nobody owns him — a perfectly sensible second route in if you'd rather not follow the crowd. Rushworth is the budget keeper version of the same argument.

The honest caveat: none of these players is stamped nailed-on. They've been starting, yes, but promoted sides tinker, and a £4.0m defender who loses his shirt is a dead slot. That's the thing that changes this call — the moment Thomas or Dasilva drops out of the XI, the value evaporates, because value at this price *is* the minutes.

What you shouldn't do is romance the attack. The midfielders and Thomas-Asante are cheap for a reason — the worst attack in the league doesn't fund returns, and the forward has barely been starting anyway. The set pieces are spread across three or four names, so nobody even owns that route cleanly. Skip it.

The call: buy Bobby Thomas as your fifth defender — a starting £4.0m man in a decent defence with Fulham, Sunderland and Palace coming up is precisely what funds the expensive stuff elsewhere. Dasilva if you want the same thing with nobody watching. Leave every Coventry attacker on the shelf.
