Arsenal FPL: Who To Own, Captain And Avoid

This is the version of Arsenal FPL: Who To Own, Captain And Avoid from 16 September 2026, kept for the record. The picks and the numbers have moved since. The current version →

Arsenal: buy the back, ignore the front

Here's the whole story in one line: our model has Arsenal as the second-meanest defence in the league, and they're about to hit one of the kindest clean-sheet runs on the fixture list. The attack? Middle of the pack — ninth — and staring at a genuinely tough slog. If you're buying into Arsenal over the next six, you're buying shutouts, not goals.

The fixtures back it up. Brighton away is awkward, but then it's Leeds and Everton at home, Hull at the Emirates in six weeks, and a Forest trip in between. Liverpool away is the one landmine, and you'll survive one blank in six if the rest are shutouts. For defenders and keepers, that run is money.

So who's the entry point? Calafiori is where the value sits — under £6.0, nailed, starting every week, and about half of all managers already agree with you, so there's no cleverness required here, just a working defender at a fair price. That's the pick. Gabriel is the bigger threat — the aerial menace on set pieces gives him goals on top of the clean sheets, and only about 2 in 10 own him — but he costs over £2m more for the privilege, and that £2.2m funds a lot elsewhere. Raya is the keeper route if you'd rather own the shutouts through the gloves; perfectly sound, slightly less upside.

The one I'd wait on is Konsa at £4.5m. Lovely price, and the club list him as an option — but he's started only two of the last four, and a cheap defender who watches from the bench is worth precisely nothing. Show me four straight starts and he becomes the best enabler in the game. Until then, no.

Up front, the honest answer is: not yet. Saka has the penalties and the corners and he can go big on his day, but he and Ødegaard are projected in the mid-20s over six weeks against a run our model rates as very tough for attackers — that's fine, not special, and Saka's £9.5m buys a lot of forward elsewhere. Havertz is the classic trap: priced for what he might do, not what he reliably does.

The call: buy Calafiori. He's the cheapest route into the best clean-sheet run going, and he actually plays. Gabriel if you've got the spare cash and want the goal threat. Leave the attackers until the fixtures turn.
