Arsenal FPL: Who To Own, Captain And Avoid

This is the version of Arsenal FPL: Who To Own, Captain And Avoid from 31 July 2026, kept for the record. The picks and the numbers have moved since. The current version →

The call — Arsenal's value is all at the back — and the fixtures agree Our model has Arsenal as the meanest defence in the league — top of the pile, first of twenty — and the run coming up is built for clean sheets: Chelsea at the Emirates is the one awkward night, then Sunderland, Brighton, Leeds, Forest and Everton. That's a…

One squad, picked before a ball was kicked and run for six gameweeks on three transfers — no hits taken. Scored on FPL’s own results.

The attack is a different story. Our model puts it mid-table — tenth — and the same fixtures rate as a tough run for goals. So the honest read is simple: don't pay for Arsenal goals, pay for Arsenal shut-outs.

Gabriel sits top of our list and it's not close — nailed, starts every week, and the sort of defender who chips in at both ends. He's the premium route in, and about 3 in 10 managers already agree. The caveat is the price: £8.0m is proper money for a defender, and it only pays off if the clean sheets actually land. Our model thinks they will.

Here's where the value hides, though. Ben White. Same back line, same clean sheets, £5.5m, and hardly anyone owns him — fewer than 1 in 10. He starts, he plays the full game, and he buys you the exact same shut-out as the £8.0m man for £2.5m less. Calafiori is the popular cheap route (about 4 in 10 have him), and he's fine, but White gets you there just as reliably with change left over. Mosquera at the same price is starting too if you're desperate, but White's the pick of the budget lot.

In the attack, Saka is the only one worth the words. He's on penalties, shares free-kicks and corners with Rice, and only about 1 in 10 managers own him at £9.5m — which is remarkable for a player of his sort. The catch is the same one hanging over the whole front line: our model doesn't love this run for Arsenal goals, so you're trusting the player over the fixtures. Ødegaard is the cheaper mid, but our model ranks him below both Saka and Rice for a reason — leave him.

The call: buy into this defence now, before Chelsea comes and goes. Gabriel if the budget stretches; White at £5.5m if it doesn't — and frankly, White plus £2.5m in the bank is the smarter shape for most squads. Hold off on the attackers unless it's Saka, and even then, know you're paying for the man, not the fixtures. Buy White.
