The shortlist: Saka at Villa Park, Bruno Fernandes hosting Ipswich, Cole Palmer at home to Brighton, and Thiago away at Leeds. Two of our analysts have taken it to court.

He leads the whole shortlist on projected points and shares the biggest ceiling on it — on his day he's good for 13, and he hits a proper haul roughly one week in five. AVL (A) sounds spicy but our model doesn't blink, and here's the kicker: only about 1 in 10 managers own him. Captain Saka and land the big one, and you're not keeping pace with the crowd — you're lapping it. Bruno gives you the same top-end week, but half the world already has him, so his hauls just move you sideways. Palmer's one-in-seven haul odds are respectable, Thiago's one-in-nine isn't captain material. Saka is the armband that actually wins you something.

IPS (H) is the kindest fixture on the board, he's nailed for 90 minutes every week, and his ordinary week is a five — same as Saka's, but at home to a promoted side rather than away at Villa. His haul odds match Saka's at roughly one in five, his monster week is the same 13, and he's projected within a whisker at 5.9. So I'm getting near-identical upside with none of the away-day risk. Yes, about 5 in 10 managers own him — good. That's not a weakness, that's insurance. If Bruno blanks, half the game blanks with you. If Saka blanks, you've burned the armband for nothing. Palmer and Thiago both carry too much quiet-week danger to discuss seriously.
The verdict from the bench: this one's genuinely about where you sit. Chasing your mini-league or a rank climb? Take Saka — same haul odds as Bruno, and almost nobody else profits when he goes off. Protecting a lead, or just want the safe Saturday? Bruno at home to Ipswich is the armband least likely to hurt you. If you're forcing us to pick one for the average manager: Bruno's the play.
