Tottenham Hotspur FPL: Who To Own, Captain And Avoid

This is the version of Tottenham Hotspur FPL: Who To Own, Captain And Avoid from 4 September 2026, kept for the record. The picks and the numbers have moved since. The current version →

The call — Spurs: the only value here is wearing a defender's shirt Here's the awkward truth our model spits out about Spurs: the best thing you can buy at this club costs £4.9m and plays centre-back. When your top-ranked asset is a bargain-bin defender, that tells you everything about where the goals aren't coming from.

One squad, picked before a ball was kicked and run for six gameweeks on three transfers — no hits taken. Scored on FPL’s own results.

Your name and your FPL team name. That is all it takes, and we will have your answer before you have finished reading this sentence.

No FPL password, ever. We only read what FPL already publishes.

And they aren't. Our projections put this attack among the league's blunter units — 16th of 20 — and the run doesn't help: Forest away, Manchester United away and Chelsea away all land inside the next six. Rated a very tough stretch for anyone hoping Spurs score their way to hauls. So before you talk yourself into a shiny Tottenham forward, ask the boring question: who's actually delivering points here, week after week?

Van Hecke is the answer, and it's not close. He's nailed, he tops our Spurs list over the next six, and at his price he's the definition of an enabler who actually plays — the sort of pick that funds a premium elsewhere without leaving a hole in your XI. Hardly anyone owns him either, less than 1 in 10, so he's quietly useful rather than template filler. Kinsky is the same story in gloves: bottom-price keeper, starts every week, already sitting in about 2 in 10 squads. The defence ranks a middling 17th, mind — this is not a clean-sheet machine — but the fixture run for shut-outs is average rather than grim, and Everton, Villa and Coventry all visit the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Cheap defenders who never blank don't need many clean sheets to pay their way.

The honest caveat: you're buying floor, not fireworks. If you want upside from this squad, Porro is the one with a lever to pull — he's on free kicks and shares corners, so he can go big on his day — but our model still ranks him behind Van Hecke, and I'd trust that. Tonali and Tel are the value picks in midfield if you must, but a 16th-ranked attack facing this run of opponents is not where I'm spending money on goals.

The call: buy Van Hecke as your set-and-forget cheap defender, take Kinsky if you need a budget keeper, and leave the Spurs attack alone until the fixtures — and the goals — turn up.
