Sunderland FPL: Who To Own, Captain And Avoid

This is the version of Sunderland FPL: Who To Own, Captain And Avoid from 2 October 2026, kept for the record. The picks and the numbers have moved since. The current version →

The call — Sunderland: the value is at the wrong end — and that's fine Here's the honest picture on Sunderland: our model has them 17th of 20 for attack, and the fixtures ahead are a genuinely tough run for scoring — Brighton, Bournemouth, Leeds, Coventry, Chelsea, Villa. Nobody is buying a Sunderland forward off the back of that. But flip the pitch…

That's the whole case. Roefs at £4.9m is a starting goalkeeper behind a middling-but-honest defence — exactly what a bench-keeper or set-and-forget slot is for. Meunier at £4.5m is the one that quietly funds a premium elsewhere: a defender at rock-bottom price who starts every week, owned by basically nobody. He won't do anything spectacular. He'll be on the pitch, which at that money is the entire job description.

The one attacking route worth discussing is Le Fée, and the reason is sitting in the set-piece table: he's on corners, free kicks and shares penalties with Diarra. When a blunt team only creates from dead balls, you want the man standing over them. He tops our Sunderland rankings, he's nailed, and about 3 in 10 own him — sorry, roughly 1 in 3 of nobody; call it 3 in every 100 managers. A fiver-and-a-bit midfielder who takes everything is how you squeeze returns out of a side this shy in open play. Xhaka is nailed too, but he's the classic steady-points, no-haul profile — if you're spending a midfield slot here, Le Fée is the one with an actual route to a double-figure week.

The caveat is the obvious one: tough fixtures for a 17th-ranked attack means even Le Fée's good weeks may be 5s and 6s rather than hauls, and clean sheets against Chelsea and Villa are a prayer, not a plan.

So: don't buy the dream, buy the minutes. Roefs or Meunier if you need an enabler who actually starts; Le Fée if you want one Sunderland attacker and only one. Leave the rest alone.
