Manchester City FPL: Who To Own, Captain And Avoid

This is the version of Manchester City FPL: Who To Own, Captain And Avoid from 24 September 2026, kept for the record. The picks and the numbers have moved since. The current version →

The call — Nobody at Manchester City is nailed. Not one of them. That's the first thing the table above tells you, and it's the thing every shiny projection on this page has to answer to. The case for buying in is obvious enough. This is one of the league's two sharpest attacks with the third-meanest defence, and after Anfield first up the…

Haaland is the exception that proves the rule: even without a guaranteed start every week, he's on penalties, seven in ten of you already own him, and our model still makes him the biggest points source in the squad over the next six. He's priced for his ceiling at £15.6m, and you pay it anyway, because the ceiling arrives often enough. If you own him, this run is exactly when you captain him — Ipswich and Brighton at home in particular.

The actual value, though, sits at the back — where it usually does when a defence this mean meets fixtures this soft. Gvardiol at £5.7m is our model's pick of the defenders: starting regularly, clean-sheet points baked in most weeks, and only about 3 in 10 managers own him. Guéhi projects similarly and is cheaper on ownership, but the model prefers Gvardiol, and I'm not arguing with it over 30p. Rúben at £5.5m is the genuinely cheap route in — hardly anyone owns him — but "hardly anyone" is usually the market telling you something about rotation, and none of these men carries a guarantee.

The midfield is where romance goes to die. Cherki is on free kicks and corners and looks lovely, but he's started less often than the defenders behind him, and £7.8m for a man who might watch the second half from the bench is not value, it's hope.

What changes the call? A clear Pep pattern emerging in either direction. Until then: buy Gvardiol as your route into this run, keep Haaland and captain him at home, and leave Cherki for the managers who enjoy suffering.
