Liverpool FPL: Who To Own, Captain And Avoid

This is the version of Liverpool FPL: Who To Own, Captain And Avoid from 12 September 2026, kept for the record. The picks and the numbers have moved since. The current version →

The call — Liverpool: one way in, and it costs £7.0m Dominik Szoboszlai currently takes Liverpool's penalties, free kicks and corners. That's the whole dead-ball portfolio in one £7.0m midfielder, and it's why our model puts him at the top of this squad — above Isak, who's £2.1m dearer and projected only a couple of points better over the next six.

One squad, picked before a ball was kicked and run for six gameweeks on three transfers — no hits taken. Scored on FPL’s own results.

Let's be honest about what those next six look like, though: Bournemouth away, Man City at home, Brentford away, Brighton, Arsenal, then Palace away. That's about as unfriendly a run as the fixture computer can cook up, and our numbers have Liverpool sitting mid-pack at both ends right now — roughly ninth-best attack, twelfth-meanest defence. This is not a team demanding a triple-up.

So where's the value? Not the back line. Virgil and Alisson are fine footballers, but a middling defence facing City and Arsenal in a six-week window is not where you shop for clean sheets. Jacquet at £5.0m is the tempting one — he's starting, he's cheap — but a starting defender behind the twelfth-best defence in this run is a bench body, not a plan. Same logic kills the Isak case: £9.1m is ceiling pricing, and you're paying it into fixtures where the ceiling rarely shows up. Wirtz at £7.4m is the shiny toy hardly anyone owns (~1 in 10), but he's ranked below Szoboszlai for a reason — the Hungarian holds the set pieces and the surer route to returns.

Szoboszlai is the exception because his floor doesn't depend on the fixture. Pens, free kicks, corners — he gets his touches in the box whoever's in front of him, he's nailed, and about 4 in 10 managers already know it. Roughly 26 points over six against this schedule is respectable work for £7.0m.

What changes the call? If the set pieces migrate elsewhere, or if the fixtures after this run open up, Isak becomes the conversation. Not yet.

The call: own exactly one Liverpool attacker through this run, and make it Szoboszlai. Hold him if you've got him, buy him if you need a £7.0m mid. Everyone else — including the defence, including Isak — wait until the fixtures turn.
