FPL Budget Picks: The Best MID Under £6.5

This is the version of FPL Budget Picks: The Best MID Under £6.5 from 20 September 2026, kept for the record. The picks and the numbers have moved since. The current version →

The call — One budget midfielder is projected to score more than double any of his rivals over the next six weeks — and he costs £5.8m. That's Pascal Groß, and the gap is almost embarrassing. Our model has him down for around 64 points over the next six gameweeks; nobody else under £6.5m clears 33. Brighton's run is lovely too, starting at…

One squad, picked before a ball was kicked and run for six gameweeks on three transfers — no hits taken. Scored on FPL’s own results.

The rest of the bracket, quickly and honestly:

Diego Gomez (BHA, £5.0m) — the sneaky one. Same kind Brighton fixtures as Groß, around 32 points projected, and hardly anyone owns him (~4 in 10... no, 4 in 100 — call it hardly anyone). The best enabler on this list if the £5.8m is spoken for.

Barnes (NEW, £6.1m) — very kind run starting at Coventry, decent numbers, barely owned. Worth a look if you trust the minutes; Newcastle's wide slots have a habit of getting shuffled.

Tavernier (BOU, £6.1m) — steady, average fixtures, Chelsea away first up. Fine, not exciting.

Anderson (MCI, £6.3m) — favourable run after the small matter of Liverpool away. City rotation is the tax you pay; I don't pay it at this price.

Schade (BRE, £6.1m) — tough fixtures, starts at Villa. Pass for now.

Scott (BOU, £6.1m) — Tavernier's cheaper-by-nothing teammate with worse numbers. No.

Xhaka & Le Fée (SUN) — Sunderland's run is brutal. Xhaka will play every minute, which I respect, but every minute of hard games is still hard games.

Stach (LEE, £6.0m) — Arsenal away, very tough run. Avoid.

Belloumi & Slater (HUL, £5.1m / £4.5m) — the £4.5m question is always "does he actually play?", and neither comes stamped as a guaranteed starter, with grim fixtures on top. Slater is bench-fodder money only if you're desperate.

The call is not close. Groß at £5.8m is the buy — double the projected points of anything near him, kind fixtures, plays every week. If you need it cheaper, Diego Gomez at £5.0m rides the same Brighton run for 80p less. Everything else here is paying £6.1m for hope.
