FPL Budget Picks: The Best MID Under £6.5

This is the version of FPL Budget Picks: The Best MID Under £6.5 from 17 September 2026, kept for the record. The picks and the numbers have moved since. The current version →

The call — Budget mids under £6.5m: who's actually worth your money Groß is the answer, and it's not close. £5.7m, starts every week, never gets hooked on 60, and our model has him down for around 46 points over the next six — a solid haul most weeks rather than fireworks, which is exactly what you want at this price. One squad, picked before a ball was kicked and run for six gameweeks on three transfers — no hits taken. Scored on FPL’s own results.

The rest of the bracket, one line each, in our order of preference:

Tavernier (BOU, £6.1m) — nailed starter, favourable fixtures once Liverpool at the Vitality is out of the way, and hardly anyone has him (~1 in 2 out of 10). Good for 34-odd points over six.

Dewsbury-Hall (EVE, £6.5m) — starts, and Ipswich at home is lovely, but the run after is tough. Top of the price band buying bottom of this list's fixtures. Pass.

Diego Gomez (BHA, £5.0m) — the pure-value shout. A pound cheaper than Groß, same kind fixtures, projected in the low 30s, starts. If your budget's genuinely tight, this is where it goes.

Schade (BRE, £6.1m) and Scott (BOU, £6.1m) — both start, both have decent runs, both project mid-to-high 20s. Fine. Not exciting, not wrong.

Xhaka (SUN, £5.5m) — starts every minute of every game, which I respect, but City away kicks off a very tough run. Minutes without fixtures is only half the deal.

Stach (LEE, £6.0m) — quietly projects 30 over six with an average run. Owned by almost nobody (~fewer than 3 in 100). Worth a look if you're bored.

Le Fée (SUN, £5.8m) — same brutal Sunderland fixtures, and not yet proven at this level. No.

Barnes (NEW, £6.0m) — very kind fixtures starting with Hull at home, but Newcastle's rotation history means I'm asking who comes off on 60. Handle with care.

Anderson (MCI, £6.3m) — starts for City, apparently, but average fixtures and modest returns for £6.3m.

Slater (HUL, £4.5m) — the bench-fodder question answered: he starts, he's £4.5m, the fixtures are horrible. That's fine — he's there to be a body who plays.

The call: buy Groß. If the £5.7m doesn't fit, Tavernier is the model's next in line — but Gomez at £5.0m is the one that funds your premiums and still plays every week. Cheap and nailed beats shiny and rotated. Every time.
