FPL Budget Picks: The Best MID Under £6.5
The call — Budget midfielders under £6.5m: who's actually worth your money Sixty-three midfielders qualify at £6.5m or below. Most of them are either bench fodder or rotation traps. Here's the dozen worth a look, ranked in the order we'd buy them — and the ranking matters more than the price tag.

Pascal Groß (BHA, £5.6m) tops the list, and it's not close. Starts every week, never blanks for long, and our projections have him near 38 points over the next six — comfortably the best return in the bracket. Fixtures are middling, starting at Coventry, but Groß's game doesn't need easy fixtures. About 1 in 10 own him. He's the whole thesis of this column: a cheap player who plays is worth more than a shiny one who doesn't.
The rest, one line each:
- Tavernier (BOU, £6.0m) — nailed starter, set pieces, decent run beginning with Brentford at home. Hardly anyone has him.
- Dewsbury-Hall (EVE, £6.5m) — starts, but the fixtures are grim, Spurs away first. Pass for now.
- Diego Gomez (BHA, £5.0m) — the true enabler here. Starts, projects a very respectable 28 points at five million. Real money-saver.
- Scott (BOU, £6.0m) — starts, fine, but Tavernier is the Bournemouth pick at the same price.
- Le Fée (SUN, £5.9m) — Arsenal at home then a brutal run. Not yet proven at this level either. No.
- Xhaka (SUN, £5.5m) — plays every minute, but same horrible fixtures. Points-per-minute romance doesn't pay here.
- Ndiaye (MCI, £5.9m) — lovely fixtures after the derby, but City midfielders at this price make you sweat over the teamsheet. Buyer beware.
- Schade (BRE, £6.0m) — starts, tough run, fine bench option, nothing more.
- Elanga (NEW, £6.1m) — good fixtures, projects around 27 points, about 1 in 10 own him. The best of the mid-tier if you want upside.
- Anderson (MCI, £6.3m) — same City rotation caveat as Ndiaye.
- Stach (LEE, £6.0m) — starts, but Newcastle first and a hard road after.
The call: Groß is the buy — best points in the bracket, guaranteed minutes, boring in the best way. If you need it cheaper, Diego Gomez at £5.0m is the enabler that actually earns. If you want a bit more spark and better fixtures, Tavernier or Elanga are the alternatives. But start with Groß. Reliable wins at this price. It usually does.
