Budget Forwards Under £7.5m: Who's Actually Worth Your Money

The sharpest thing in this week's numbers: Wissa at £6.2m is projected for nearly 30 points over the next six gameweeks — ten clear of anyone else in the budget bracket. That's not a marginal call. That's a gap.

Newcastle's man kicks off with Coventry away, and it only gets friendlier from there — as kind a run as any forward in this price range gets. About 2 in 10 managers already have him, so he's not a secret, but he's not template either. Usually good for 5-6 a week on this run, with the odd bigger score in him. He's the pick, and it isn't close.

The interesting alternative is Kostoulas at £5.6m. Brighton's forward gets the other genuinely kind fixture run in the bracket, starting Sunderland away, and our model has him just behind the more expensive names for points. Hardly anyone owns him — about 2 in 100 — so if he delivers, you're gaining on everyone. The honest caveat: at this price, minutes are the whole game, and you'll want to see his name on the teamsheet before you get romantic.

Quick sweep of the rest, because value cuts both ways:

Calvert-Lewin (£6.0m, LEE) — the most-owned of the lot at roughly 1 in 4, but the fixtures are brutal, starting Arsenal away. You're paying for a name, not points.

Barry (£5.7m, EVE) and Brobbey (£5.7m, SUN) — both proven, both facing tough runs. Fine third forwards, nothing more.

Emersonn (£5.5m, IPS) — the projection is respectable but he's unproven at this level and the fixtures are nasty. Watch, don't buy.

Evanilson (£6.0m, BOU) — average fixtures, Chelsea away first up. Middling everything.

Marmoush (£7.0m, TOT), Delap (£5.6m, NFO), Jackson (£6.5m, AVL), Gonzalo (£6.0m, FUL), McBurnie (£5.5m, HUL) — all projected in the 11-17 range over six weeks against tough runs. At those numbers you're funding nothing and getting less.

The call: buy Wissa. He's the rare budget forward where the price, the fixtures and the projected points all point the same way, and £6.2m for near-30 points over six is exactly what this bracket is for. If you need to go cheaper — or you want the one nobody else has — Kostoulas is the alternative, provided he's starting. Everyone else on this list is either overpriced, over-owned, or staring at fixtures that will eat them alive.
