Chelsea FPL: Who To Own, Captain And Avoid

This is the version of Chelsea FPL: Who To Own, Captain And Avoid from 1 August 2026, kept for the record. The picks and the numbers have moved since. The current version →

The call — Chelsea are carrying the league's third-best attack into a run that reads Hull, Bournemouth and Everton — and the whole page is a question of which end of the pitch you pay for. The answer is the front end, and it's not close. Our model has Chelsea's attack among the sharpest in the league with a very kind six ahead…

Who to spend it on is the useful bit. João Pedro and Rogers head our list, and for a dry-eyed value man that's a pleasing pair — both nailed, both mid-priced, both projected for a solid return most weeks over this run, and Rogers is the sneakier of the two at only about 2-3 in 10 owned against João Pedro's near-7 in 10. If you want to be with the crowd, João Pedro is safe. If you want the same points cheaper on the ownership front, Rogers is the pick.

Palmer is the ceiling play — penalties, free-kick duties, £9.6m, and only about 2 in 10 own him, which is remarkably low for a player who can go massive on his day. The honest caveat: he's ranked below the two mid-pricers on our list, so he's the luxury add, not the entry point. You're paying a couple of million for the big-week upside, not a better weekly floor.

At the back, be a miser. Lacroix is the best of the defenders per our projections, but an average clean-sheet run doesn't justify £6.0m when Colwill and Gusto sit at £5.0m, nailed, doing largely the same job for the same clean sheets. That's a £1.0m saving that helps pay for Palmer, which is exactly what cheap defenders are for. Martinez at £5.0m is a perfectly serviceable keeper who plays — nothing more needed at that price.

The call: buy into Chelsea through the attack — Rogers or João Pedro first, Palmer if the budget stretches — and if you must have a defender, take the £5.0m starters and keep the change. Don't pay for clean sheets a mid-table defence isn't promising.
