Chelsea FPL: Who To Own, Captain And Avoid

The call — Chelsea's value is all at one end of the pitch — and it's not the end their prices suggest. Our model has them as one of the league's four sharpest attacks over the next six, and the fixtures are a gift: Bournemouth, Spurs, United and Leeds all come to Stamford Bridge, with trips to Everton and Sunderland in between. One squad, picked before a ball was kicked and run for five gameweeks on three transfers — no hits taken. Scored on FPL’s own results.

The defence is a different story. Eighteenth of twenty for keeping the ball out, with a tough run for clean sheets on top. So before you get seduced by a £4.8m Colwill or a £5.0m Fofana — yes, they start, and yes, the prices look like free money — ask what you're actually buying. A nailed defender in a back line our model ranks third-worst in the league is a 2-pointer with ambitions. Same logic for Martinez at £5.0m: he'll play every week, he'll face plenty of shots, and save points only pay the rent. Fine as a bench body. Not a plan.

The attack is where the money works. Rogers is the headline — nailed, on free kicks, and projected for roughly 6 points a game across the six, which at £7.8m is proper value for a midfielder. The catch: about 4 in 10 managers already own him, so he's protection as much as profit. The other catch: penalties belong to Palmer and Estêvão, so his biggest weeks need open play to deliver. He's good enough that they will, often enough.

The quieter value is Neto at £6.5m. Starting every week, on corners, owned by barely 1 in 10, and projected around 3 points a game — a reliable third-midfielder price doing a reliable third-midfielder job, with upside when Chelsea click in this run. If your budget doesn't stretch to Rogers, he's the sensible door into this attack.

One name to actively avoid: Welbeck. One start, not nailed, and our model barely projects him for a goal's worth of points across six weeks. A £5.9m forward who might not play is the worst purchase in the game.

The call: buy into Chelsea for the fixtures — through Rogers if you can afford him, Neto if you can't — and leave the defence alone entirely. Cheap doesn't mean value when the clean sheets aren't coming.
