Brentford FPL: Who To Own, Captain And Avoid

This is the version of Brentford FPL: Who To Own, Captain And Avoid from 28 August 2026, kept for the record. The picks and the numbers have moved since. The current version →

The call — BRENTFORD: BUY THE FRONT END, LEAVE THE BACK ALONE Brentford's first-choice penalty taker is their striker, and their striker is nailed. That's the least romantic sentence I'll write all week, and it's also the whole argument. Our model has this attack among the league's better units — top six — and the opening run treats it kindly: Tottenham and Sunderland…

One squad, picked before a ball was kicked and run for six gameweeks on three transfers — no hits taken. Scored on FPL’s own results.

Which brings us to the awkward part. Brentford's defence is genuinely decent by our reckoning — comfortably top half — but the fixture list doesn't care. Spurs, Chelsea and Villa in a six-game window means the shut-outs are going to be hard-earned, and hard-earned clean sheets are the ones you don't get. Collins, Kayode and Ajer are all cheap, all starting, and all fine. But "fine" at the back with this run is a 2-point week more often than a 6-point one. The table tells you they're nailed; I'm telling you nailed isn't the problem — the opposition is.

The value sits up front, and it's not close. Thiago is the piece priced like a mid-range forward who comes with the penalties, the minutes and the kindest stretch of these fixtures pointed at his boots. Our projection has him clearing a solid return most weeks, and pens mean he can go big without playing well — my favourite kind of striker. Not quite 2 in 10 managers own him, so he's still short of template. That won't last if Leeds and Sunderland go how our model thinks they go.

If eight million is a stretch, Schade is the honest budget route in — nailed, second in the penalty queue, and owned by barely anyone. Dango is on corners and interesting, but at that price Schade does the same job cheaper. The caveat on all of it: this is a good attack, not a great one, and the run turns from GW5. This is a six-week trade, not a marriage.

The call is simple. Buy Thiago now, before Spurs at home, and ride him through GW4 at minimum. Schade if the budget's tight. The defenders? Let someone more optimistic own them. I'll take the man with the ball on the spot.
