Tottenham Hotspur FPL: Who To Own, Captain And Avoid

This is the version of Tottenham Hotspur FPL: Who To Own, Captain And Avoid from 27 August 2026, kept for the record. The picks and the numbers have moved since. The current version →

The call — Spurs' best asset for the opening six gameweeks is a £6.0m defender behind a defence our model ranks 13th in the league. That tells you most of what you need to know. Nobody's pretending this is a glamorous read. Our projections have Tottenham's attack 12th and their defence 13th, and the fixture computer isn't doing them any favours either way…

So who survives the audit? Senesi tops our list — projected around 23 points across the first six, which is roughly 4 a week from a defender. That's a perfectly respectable floor, and with fewer than 1 in 10 managers on him, he's not a pick you're sharing with the template. The catch is obvious: £6.0m is proper money for a back line facing that run, and clean sheets will need earning rather than collecting. He's the sort of defender who scores points without shutouts, which is exactly what you want when the shutouts aren't coming.

Van Hecke at £5.0m is the cheaper version of the same argument — about 19-20 points projected, owned by 1 in 10 — a fine squad body if the extra million matters. And Kinsky at £4.5m is quietly the value play of the lot: over 2 in 10 managers already have him, and at bottom price for a keeper he's the kind of pick that just quietly ticks over.

The attack? Pass. Tonali and Richarlison are projected 15-16 points apiece over six — call it 2.5 a week — and hardly anyone owns either (fewer than 1 in 20). At £5.5m and £6.0m there are better uses of the money, and against this fixture list I'm not chasing Spurs goals that our model doesn't believe in.

The honest summary: Spurs are a defence-first proposition into a run that's unkind to defences. That's not a contradiction — it just means you buy the floor, not the dream.

The call: buy Senesi if you want a Spurs body — he's the one who earns his price. Kinsky's a sensible cheap keeper. Leave the attack on the shelf.
