Newcastle United FPL: Who To Own, Captain And Avoid
The call — Newcastle: the value's at the back, and it's going cheap Six fixtures, and not a scary one among them: Hull and Coventry to open, then Villa, Palace, Everton and Fulham. Our model has Newcastle as one of the league's meanest defences and top-four for attacking threat, and it's handing them the kindest run on the board at both ends. The…

Start where the value actually sits: the back line. Hall tops our list for the whole club, and it's not hard to see why — he's nailed, he takes the corners and shares free kicks, so he's a defender being paid at both ends of the pitch. Just over 1 in 10 managers have him, which is criminally low for a player our projections rate as Newcastle's best asset over the next six.
If £5.2m offends your spreadsheet, the real bargain is behind him. Thiaw and Botman both sit at £5.0m, both nailed, both riding the same clean-sheet run — and between them barely anyone owns either. That's the classic enabler profile: a centre-back who starts every week, never blanks his minutes, and frees up funds for the shiny stuff elsewhere. Horníček at £5.0m offers the same fixtures in goal for those building from scratch.
Up front, Wissa is the model's pick of the attackers and he's on penalties — though he shares them with Osula, which is the sort of detail that costs you a captaincy one day. Elanga and Barnes are decent mid-price midfield routes in, but here's the honest caveat: Newcastle's attacking slots are crowded, and when everyone's a threat, nobody's guaranteed the returns. The defenders don't have that problem — there are only so many centre-back spots, and these two own them.
The other side of the ledger: three starts is a short sample for everyone here, and a kind run only pays out if the team delivers on it. But nailed minutes plus this fixture list is about as safe as speculation gets.
The call: buy into Newcastle through the defence. Hall if you can stretch to him — set pieces plus clean sheets is proper double-duty. If you can't, Thiaw or Botman at £5.0m is the best enabler money in the game right now. Get one in before Hull turn up.
