Liverpool FPL: Who To Own, Captain And Avoid
The call — LIVERPOOL: BUY THE MIDFIELD, IGNORE THE BACK LINE Here's the uncomfortable bit first: our model has Liverpool's defence ranked among the very worst in the league right now — 19th of 20 — and the fixture run does them no favours on clean sheets either. Whatever you're buying into at Anfield over the next six, it isn't shut-outs.
What has not being with FFIQ cost you this season?
One squad, picked before a ball was kicked and run for six gameweeks on three transfers — no hits taken. Scored on FPL’s own results.
Your name and your FPL team name. That is all it takes, and we will have your answer before you have finished reading this sentence.

The good news is the value doesn't live back there anyway. It lives at £7.0m, and his name is Szoboszlai. He tops our list for this squad, he's nailed, and — check the set-piece table — he's on penalties, free kicks *and* corners. That's three routes to points before he's kicked a ball in open play. Roughly 4 in 10 managers already own him, so he's hardly a secret, but at that price he's the sensible way in: a steady 4-5 most weeks with the set-piece involvement to go bigger. Isak edges him fractionally on raw projected points, but he costs £2m more for the same output, and Cheapy doesn't pay premium prices for parity. If you want a genuinely quiet route in, Gakpo at £7.0m does nearly the same job with barely 1 in 10 owning him — second in the penalty queue too, for what that's worth.
Wirtz is the one priced for his ceiling rather than his floor. £7.5m, projected below three teammates who cost the same or less. Shiny name, worse value. Pass.
Now the caveat, and it's a real one: this is only two starts of evidence, the attack ranks mid-table (8th), and the run is genuinely awkward — Ipswich away is fine, but Man City at home and trips to Bournemouth and Brentford sit in the middle of it. This isn't a "load up on three" situation. It's a "one attacker, chosen carefully" situation.
And the defence? Virgil at £6.5m for what our model expects over six weeks is money on fire. Alisson at £5.5m is the same story cheaper. When a team is 19th for keeping the ball out of its own net and the fixtures make it harder, you don't fund it. Jacquet at £5.0m at least starts, but even he's an "only if desperate" enabler.
The call: buy Szoboszlai at £7.0m as your one Liverpool slot — Gakpo if you want the road less travelled. Don't touch the defence at any price.
