Groß Vs Rogers: The Better FPL Pick

That's rare. Usually when a cheap midfielder projects level with a premium one, there's a catch: rotation, a horror fixture run, a role that dries up. Groß doesn't obviously carry one. Brighton open with Coventry away and Sunderland away in their next three — exactly the sort of games where he racks up returns — plus Crystal Palace at home. Yes, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City lurk in that window too, and those trips are where the honest caveat sits: don't expect much from Anfield or the Etihad. But my numbers already account for that and he still comes out level.

Rogers' case is the fixtures. Chelsea's run is genuinely lovely — Hull at home, Brentford away, Bournemouth at home, Everton away, then Spurs and United at Stamford Bridge. No trip to a title contender in sight. He's also the safer template pick: about 2 or 3 in every 10 managers own him, against roughly 1.5 in 10 for Groß. If Rogers hauls, a big chunk of the field scores with him; if Groß hauls, you gain on almost everyone. Both are usually good for 5–6 a week in this stretch, and Rogers arguably has the bigger single-week explosion in him given Chelsea's attacking firepower around him.

But this is an FPL decision, not a beauty contest, and £2.0m is a third midfielder elsewhere or the difference between a £5.5m and £7.5m striker. When two players project level, the cheaper one wins — that's not clever, it's just maths.

The call: buy Groß. Bank the £2.0m, ride the Coventry and Sunderland trips, and accept the Liverpool and City games as the price of a bargain. Rogers is a fine hold if you already own him — don't sell a player projecting 38 points into a run like Chelsea's — but if you're choosing fresh this week, Groß is my pick, and it isn't close on value.
