FPL Budget Picks: The Best MID Under £9.0

This is the version of FPL Budget Picks: The Best MID Under £9.0 from 10 October 2026, kept for the record. The picks and the numbers have moved since. The current version →

The call — Midfielders under £9.0m: who's actually worth your money Start with the number that matters: Groß is projected for north of 50 points over the next six gameweeks at £5.9m. Nobody else in this bracket gets within ten points of that, and most of them cost two million more. That's not a differential punt — about 4 in 10 managers already…

We looked at 67 midfielders under £9.0m. Here's the shortlist, in our order of preference:

Groß (BHA, £5.9m) — a very kind run starting with CRY (H), and he's the sort who racks up a steady 6-8 most weeks with the odd bigger haul. The value pick of the whole bracket.

Rogers (CHE, £7.8m) — lovely fixtures beginning at Everton, projected just under 40 over six. Heavily owned (~4 in 10), so he's template rather than clever — but template exists for a reason.

Cherki (MCI, £7.8m) — expected to start, nice fixtures, IPS (H) first up. Decent, but City's attack has a lot of mouths to feed and he costs the same as Rogers for ten fewer projected points.

Tavernier (BOU, £6.1m) and Schade (BRE, £6.2m) — both face tough runs, and Schade opens with Liverpool at home. Pass for now.

Szoboszlai (LIV, £6.9m) — starts every week, but a very tough run and barely 21 projected points. Three in ten managers own him for the badge. Don't be one of them.

Mbeumo and Cunha (both MUN, £7.9m) — expected starters, average fixtures, mid-20s projections. Fine, not exciting. Cunha's the quieter pick at 6 in 100... sorry, hardly anyone has him.

Gibbs-White (NFO, £8.0m) — starts, but ARS (H) kicks off a brutal run.

Ødegaard (ARS, £6.8m) — the worry here is minutes. Nobody's convinced he's nailed, and at this price a player who gets hooked or rested is dead money.

Barnes (NEW, £6.1m) — the sneaky one. Expected starter, favourable fixtures, AVL (H) next, 27 projected points, and barely 1 in 10 own him. If you want a cheap body who actually plays, he's it.

E.Le Fée (SUN, £5.7m) — unproven, uncertain minutes, horrible fixtures. No.

The call: buy Groß. He plays, he scores, he costs £5.9m, and the fixtures are gift-wrapped. If you've already got him — and plenty have — Rogers at £7.8m is the best alternative, with Barnes the budget option for anyone squeezing every last £0.5m. Groß first, though. Value doesn't get simpler than this.
