FPL Budget Picks: The Best MID Under £9.0

This is the version of FPL Budget Picks: The Best MID Under £9.0 from 13 September 2026, kept for the record. The picks and the numbers have moved since. The current version →

The call — Budget midfielders under £9.0m: who actually plays, and who's worth your money Seventy-nine midfielders qualify under £9.0m. Most of them are the reason your bench scores two points. Here's the dozen who matter, in order of preference. Rogers (CHE, £7.7m) is the top pick. Starts every week, and Chelsea's fixtures are a very kind run beginning at Brentford. Our projections…

Groß (BHA, £5.6m) is the value story of the entire bracket. £5.6m, nailed starter, and projected for about 45 points over six weeks — the biggest number on this list, at nearly £2m less than Rogers. Brighton's run is lovely despite Arsenal at home first up. Fewer than 2 in 10 own him. That's the enabler that funds your premiums and still scores.

Szoboszlai (LIV, £7.0m) — starts, but Liverpool's fixtures are brutal and 25 projected points doesn't justify the ownership (nearly 4 in 10). Better options above him.

Mbeumo (MUN, £7.9m) — good fixtures starting at Fulham, ~32 points projected. Solid, unromantic. Cunha (£7.9m) is the cheaper-owned United route but projects lower — take Mbeumo if you want one.

Tavernier (BOU, £6.0m) is the quiet one: 34 projected points, starts weekly, favourable run once Liverpool at home is out the way, and well under 1 in 10 own him. Team-mate Scott (£6.1m) is a decent second Bournemouth option but Tavernier's the pick there.

Diego Gomez (BHA, £5.0m) — 33 projected points at five million. Starts, same kind Brighton run. If your budget won't stretch to Groß, this works.

Gibbs-White (£7.9m) and Dewsbury-Hall (£6.5m) both start but face tough runs — pass for now. Cherki (£7.8m) is owned by 3 in 10 and projects for barely 19 points; that's a lot of managers paying for the badge. Schade (£6.0m) starts and the fixtures are fine, but the Brighton pair beat him at the price.

The call: Rogers is the top pick — starts, scores, great fixtures, worth the £7.7m. But the best alternative, and honestly the best pound-for-pound buy on the page, is Groß at £5.6m. If you own Cherki or Szoboszlai, that's your transfer this week.
