Crystal Palace FPL: Who To Own, Captain And Avoid

This is the version of Crystal Palace FPL: Who To Own, Captain And Avoid from 21 September 2026, kept for the record. The picks and the numbers have moved since. The current version →

The call — Not one Crystal Palace player has started every game. Four starts is as good as it gets in this squad, and it applies to the man at the top of our list, Marc Guehi's mate Mitchell, all the way down. Before we talk about whether Palace are worth buying into over the next six, sit with that. This is a…

The shame of it is the pricing looks tempting on paper. Mitchell at £4.5m is exactly the kind of defender I'd normally push — proper price, decent return over the next six, fewer than 1 in 10 managers own him. But he's not nailed, and he's defending for a side our model ranks among the leakiest in the league — fourth-worst, if we're being honest about it. The fixtures for clean sheets are only average, and "average" for the 17th-best defence means the odd shutout, not a habit. Richards, Khalaili and Canvot are the same bet at worse odds.

The attack is actually the better half of this team — mid-table, ninth by our reckoning — but here's the rub: the run of fixtures for scoring is genuinely nasty. Newcastle at home, Tottenham away, Liverpool at home. Brighton away is no picnic either. So the end of the pitch where Palace have quality is walking into a wall, and the end with kind-ish fixtures can't keep the ball out. Wharton and Kamada at £5.0–5.5m are on corners and tick along at a few points a week, but neither starts every game, and midfielders who tick along are exactly what your bench doesn't need.

Note too that the penalties belong to Mateta — who doesn't even make our preferred list right now. When the pen taker isn't a pick, that tells you something about the whole setup.

What changes the call? A settled XI. If Mitchell strings together five straight starts, he's a lovely £4.5m third defender and I'll say so loudly. Until then, you're paying real money for a coin-flip on team sheets.

The call: leave Palace alone for the next six. If you already own Mitchell, hold and bench him. Everyone else, spend your £4.5m on a defender who actually plays.
