The spread of returns matters as much as the scoreline. Rudoni scored and played 82 minutes for seven points. Mfuni came on and scored within seven minutes. Simms came on and scored within twelve. Four attackers and defenders registered assists: van Ewijk, Thomas-Asante, Dasilva and Cherif himself. Six Coventry players returned five points or more from one fixture. That is a team sharing output, not one man carrying it.

For Newcastle, Botman headed home and played 90 minutes for eight points — the top defender score of the day despite conceding four. N.Gonzalez assisted, took two bonus and finished on seven. The defence did not keep a clean sheet. Neither did Coventry's, so the home defenders earned their points through assists, not shutouts.

What managers should take from this. Cherif owners banked a double-figure haul and he left the pitch on 77 minutes with the game won — minutes managed, not a concern flagged. Rudoni gave his owners attacking return from midfield at a midfield price point. The Mfuni and Simms goals came in cameo minutes; neither played enough to be a starting pick on this evidence, and seven and twelve minutes is not a case for a transfer.

Botman owners got paid despite the defeat. A goal rescued the week. The four conceded did not help his clean-sheet case, and clean sheets are what a defender is bought for.

The call: Cherif starts for everyone who owns him next gameweek. He scored, he assisted, he took the bonus, and his team put four in. Rudoni holds. Mfuni and Simms stay on the watchlist — minutes first, transfer second. Botman holds; one goal does not change what the scoreline said about the defence behind him.
