FPL Budget Picks: The Best MID Under £9.0
The call — Mid-price midfielders under £9.0m: who's actually worth the money? Seventy-five midfielders qualify under £9.0m this week. Most of them are the wrong kind of cheap — the kind that sits on your bench collecting dust. Here's the dozen who actually start, in the order we'd buy them.
What has not being with FFIQ cost you this season?
One squad, picked before a ball was kicked and run for six gameweeks on three transfers — no hits taken. Scored on FPL’s own results.
Your name and your FPL team name. That is all it takes, and we will have your answer before you have finished reading this sentence.

Mbeumo (MUN, £8.0m) tops the list. Nailed starter, a very kind run kicking off at Everton, and our model has him good for around 37-38 points over the next six weeks. About 3 in 10 already own him, so he's hardly a secret — but the reliable option rarely is.
Foden (MCI, £7.0m) is the eye-catcher. Highest projected points of the whole bracket — roughly 44-45 over six — at a full £1.0m cheaper than Mbeumo, starting with Coventry at home. Only about 1 in 2 of every ten managers has him. Yes, City rotate and that's the standing tax on any of their players, but the model expects him to start, and at £7.0m that's serious value.
The rest, quickly:
- Cherki (MCI, £7.7m) — starts, same kind fixtures, but Foden's cheaper and projects better. Buy the team-mate.
- Szoboszlai (LIV, £7.0m) — nearly 4 in 10 own him, but the fixtures turn tough and around 26 points over six is thin. Sellable.
- Rogers (CHE, £7.5m) — strong numbers (~38-39 points projected), kind run after Arsenal away. Solid.
- Gibbs-White (NFO, £7.9m) — good fixtures, only 1 in 10 own him, projects ~34. Decent shout if you want something different.
- Groß (BHA, £5.5m) — starts every week, ~35 points projected, £5.5m. That's how you fund a premium.
- Semenyo (MCI, £8.5m) — priciest here and third in City's own pecking order per our model. Pass.
- Diego Gomez (BHA, £5.0m) — £5.0m, starts, ~35 points projected, hardly anyone owns him (fewer than 1 in 20). Best pure enabler on the board.
- Cunha (MUN, £8.0m) — starts, but Mbeumo is the United pick at the same price.
- Dewsbury-Hall (EVE, £6.5m) and Xhaka (SUN, £5.5m) — both start, both facing rough runs. Not now.
The call: Mbeumo is the safe money — he starts, the fixtures are soft, and the points come steadily. But the best alternative is Foden at £7.0m: more projected points, a pound cheaper, and barely anyone owns him. If your budget's tight down the order, Diego Gomez at £5.0m is the enabler that pays for either one. Buy Mbeumo if you want sleep; buy Foden if you want the value.
