This is the version of FPL Budget Picks: The Best MID Under £6.5 from 22 August 2026, kept for the record. The picks and the numbers have moved since. The current version →

The call — Budget mids under £6.5m: who actually starts, who actually scores Sixty-three midfielders qualify at £6.5m or under. Most of them exist to fill a bench slot and disappoint you. Here are the twelve worth a look, in our model's order of preference — and yes, the order matters more than any single number in it.

Sarr (CRY, £6.5m) — the top pick. Nailed starter, proven at this level, usually good for a steady return with the odd big week. Fixtures are only average — starts at Everton — but he plays every minute of every game, which at this price is most of the battle. Hardly anyone owns him, about 1 in 2 out of 10 managers.

Ndiaye (EVE, £6.0m) — the best alternative. Starts, proven, and Everton's run is genuinely kind, beginning with Palace at home. About 1 in 6 have him already, so he's the safer, slightly more popular route.

E. Le Fée (SUN, £6.0m) — starts, decent numbers, but not proven at this level yet. Ipswich away first. Fine, not first choice.

Groß (BHA, £5.5m) — the cheap floor merchant's floor merchant. Starts every week, nice fixtures (Villa at home next). At £5.5m he's the value pick of the lot.

Anderson (MCI, £6.5m) — highest projected points in this bracket and a lovely run starting with Bournemouth at home. So why isn't he top? City's attacking slots are crowded, and our model ranks him accordingly. Buy the team-mate competition risk with open eyes.

Harry Wilson (LEE, £6.5m) — starts, but the weakest points outlook here. Pass.

Dewsbury-Hall (EVE, £6.5m) — same nice Everton fixtures, but Ndiaye is the better route into that attack for £0.5m less.

Schade (BRE, £6.0m) — starter, good fixtures, barely owned. Honest option.

Xhaka (SUN, £5.5m) — plays 90 every week, rarely does anything spectacular. That's the deal.

Ødegaard (ARS, £6.5m) — starts, very kind run (Coventry at home first), but the projected points don't quite justify the badge.

Caicedo (CHE, £5.5m) — nailed, good fixtures, will get you steady smalls.

Tzolis (ARS, £6.5m) — the one warning here. About 1 in 4 managers own him, easily the most popular name on this list, and he projects worst of the twelve. Unproven, in a crowded attack. The template has this one wrong.

The call: Sarr is the pick — minutes, pedigree, nobody owns him. Ndiaye at £6.0m is the best alternative if you want the fixtures. And if you're holding Tzolis, sell him to fund either one.
