The call — The Budget Goalkeeper Ledger: What £5.0m Actually Buys The best-projected keeper under £5.0m in the game right now opens the season at the Emirates. That's Trafford, Leeds, £5.0m — our model has him down for around 28 points over the next six, the top score in the whole budget bracket, because once you get past ARS (A) the fixtures turn…

One squad, picked before a ball was kicked and run for six gameweeks on three transfers — no hits taken. Scored on FPL’s own results.

Down the list, one line each, because that's all a budget keeper deserves:

Verbruggen (BHA, £4.5m) — a very kind run starting SUN (A), roughly 27 points projected, proven, and about 2 in 10 already have him. The template's cheap option for a reason.

Kelleher (BRE, £5.0m) — proven, kind fixtures after AVL (A), around 25-26 points. Solid, unglamorous, fine.

Petrović (BOU, £4.5m) — quietly projected for 20 points, proven, favourable run once CHE (A) is out of the way, and hardly anyone owns him (~3 in 100). The forgotten man of the bracket.

Hornícek (NEW, £5.0m) and Rushworth (COV, £4.5m) — both project around 20 with decent runs, but neither is proven, and at this price a keeper who might not play is worth precisely nothing. Same warning on Tzolakis (HUL, £4.7m) and Kinsky (TOT, £4.5m) — nearly 2 in 10 own Kinsky, which is a lot of faith in an unproven pair of gloves.

Roefs (SUN, £4.9m), Leno (FUL, £4.5m), Lammens (MUN, £4.9m) — all proven, all around 18-20 points, all on average fixtures. Fine second keepers, nothing more. Emiliano Martinez (CHE, £5.0m) carries a tough run — pass.

The romance pick is Trafford: top projection, kind fixtures, cheap ownership. The pragmatist in me notes he's unproven, and unproven keepers have a habit of costing you a bench spot. But the model puts him top for a reason, and the gap to the field is real.

The call: Trafford is the buy at £5.0m if you can stomach one awkward opener. If you'd rather sleep at night, Verbruggen at £4.5m is proven, half a million cheaper, and barely two points behind — that's the reliable money. I'd take Verbruggen and spend the £0.5m elsewhere, but either works. Just don't buy anyone below Kelleher on this list expecting them to start every week.
