FPL Budget Picks: The Best GK Under £5.0

This is the version of FPL Budget Picks: The Best GK Under £5.0 from 14 September 2026, kept for the record. The picks and the numbers have moved since. The current version →

The call — Budget keepers under £5.0m: who actually earns their money The sharpest thing our numbers say this week: Trafford at £5.0m projects for about 25 points over the next six — the best of any keeper in this bracket — and hardly anyone owns him, roughly 1 in 20. That's the gap between what the template's doing and what the value…

One squad, picked before a ball was kicked and run for six gameweeks on three transfers — no hits taken. Scored on FPL’s own results.

At this price, the only question that matters is who plays. Everyone on this list starts, so it comes down to fixtures and floor. One line each, in our order of preference:

Trafford (LEE, £5.0m) — starts, and Leeds have a very kind run beginning with CRY (H). Top projected points in the bracket. The caveat: he's unproven at this level, so you're trusting the fixtures more than the CV.

Verbruggen (BHA, £4.5m) — the proven, boring answer. Nearly the same projection (about 25 over six) for half a million less, same lovely fixture run, though it opens with ARS (H). About 2 in 10 own him, and they're not wrong.

Kelleher (BRE, £5.0m) — proven, favourable fixtures, CHE (H) first up. Solid, unspectacular, around 20-21 points projected.

Kinsky (TOT, £4.5m) — starts, decent fixtures, AVL (H) next. Unproven, and the projection sits a touch behind the two above. Popular at nearly 2 in 10, which feels like a price tag doing the recruiting.

Roefs (SUN, £5.0m) — proven and projects well (about 23), but average fixtures and MCI (A) first is a grim welcome. One for later, maybe.

Horníček (NEW, £5.0m) — the quiet one. Very kind fixtures, HUL (H) next, projects around 24 points, owned by basically nobody (1 in 100). Unproven, but if you want a punt, this is the punt.

Further down: Petrović, Tzolakis, Lammens and Leno all start but face average runs. Sels and Martínez have tough fixtures — leave them.

Here's the dry maths. Verbruggen gets you 99% of Trafford's projection for £0.5m less, and he's done it before. That half-million buys you nothing extra in goal — it buys you an upgrade somewhere that actually scores goals. Trafford is the pick if the £5.0m is already spent and you want the ownership edge; Verbruggen is the pick if you're building a squad properly.

The call: Trafford is our top pick on raw numbers. But the best buy in the bracket is Verbruggen at £4.5m — same points, cheaper, proven. Buy Verbruggen, spend the change up front.
