What Is An FPL Solver, And Do You Need One?
Short answer: An FPL solver takes projected points and searches for the best transfer plan over several gameweeks. FPL Review lists a transfer solver alongside its projections and planner. It suits managers who like working with the model. If you just want the move for your team, a simpler tool may do.
Key takeaways
- Decide first whether you want to explore a model or simply be told the move before the deadline.
- Try the free options before paying: FPL Review's projection model, LiveFPL's planner and Fantasy Football IQ's free team rater.
- Check the price wording carefully, because several tools quote yearly billing or limited-time prices.
- No tool needs your FPL password. Your team ID is enough, so be wary of anything asking for more.
- A Scout member can run FFIQ alongside their Scout membership, so you needn't choose one outright.
What has not being with FFIQ cost you this season?
Your name and your FPL team name. That is all it takes, and we will have your answer before you have finished reading this sentence.

What an FPL solver actually is
A solver is a tool that takes a set of projected points for players and then searches for the transfer plan that scores best over a run of gameweeks. You feed it a model, and it does the sums on the combinations you would never check by hand.
The idea is simple, but the answer is only as good as the projections underneath it. A solver does not know anything the projections do not, so the model matters more than the clever searching.
From the tools we looked at, FPL Review is the one that describes itself as offering a transfer solver, alongside projections and a planner. That is the one most people mean when they search for this.
Who a solver suits
A solver suits the manager who enjoys the puzzle. If you like setting constraints, comparing plans and understanding why a route beats another, a solver gives you room to do that.
It also suits someone planning several gameweeks ahead, perhaps around a chip. The chips are the Wildcard, Free Hit, Bench Boost and Triple Captain, and working out when to use them is exactly the sort of thing people like to model.
If that sounds like your idea of a good evening, FPL Review is worth a look. It offers a free projection model in the planner, and paid access runs through Patreon. We can't tell you more about its tiers than that, so check its page for the detail.
Who might not need one
Plenty of managers do not want a model. They want to know who to captain, whether to use a free transfer, and whether a move is worth a four-point hit. Each gameweek you get free transfers, and extra transfers cost four points each, so that decision comes up constantly.
A solver can answer it, but it asks you to set things up first. If you would rather open a page and see the recommended move for your own squad, a tool built around the answer will feel lighter.
There is no shame in either choice. Fantasy Premier League is free to play, and you do not need to pay for anything to enjoy it.
How the main tools compare
Here is what each one lists, as of 25 October 2026. Where a company does not list or publish something, we say so rather than guess.
- Fantasy Football Scout: articles, community, podcast and data tools. Free tier called Assistant Scout. Chief Scout is £3.25 a month, billed annually. It does not list an AI chat about your team, and does not publish accuracy.
- Fantasy Football Hub: AI and expert platform with AI transfers, team rating, planner and podcasts. The AI team rating is free (email needed). Starter is £2.49 a month, billed yearly (a 50%-off sale price). It does not list AI chat about your team, and does not publish accuracy.
- FPL Review: projections, planner and transfer solver. Free projection model in the planner, paid through Patreon. No AI chat about your team, and accuracy is not published as a figure.
- LiveFPL: live rank, price predictor, planner and ticker, all free. An optional subscription removes ads. No AI chat, and accuracy is not published.
- Fantasy Football Fix: data tools, AI transfers, ChatFPL and articles. A free account is available. Premium is £3.48 a month, billed yearly (a limited-time price). It has ChatFPL, and does not publish accuracy.
What to check before you pay
Look at how the price is billed. Some of the prices above are billed annually or yearly, and two are described as sale or limited-time prices, so the figure you see may not be the one you pay later.
Check whether the tool reads your team. FPL publishes every manager's picks only after the deadline passes, so between deadlines any tool reads the squad FPL last locked. That is true of all of them, so do not hold it against any one.
And never hand over your FPL password. No tool needs it to read your team, because your team ID is enough. That ID is the number in the web address of your Points page on the official FPL site.
Where FFIQ fits
Fantasy Football IQ (FFIQ) is not a solver you operate. It gives you projections for every player and the move for your own team before every deadline: captain, transfers, chips and line-up. It also has Ask IQ, an AI you can ask anything about your team. Here is how it describes its calls: every call combines 34 calculations with an algorithm that keeps updating as the scenario changes.
Several things are free without an account: a projection for every player six gameweeks ahead, predicted line-ups, the weekly captain and transfer calls, and a free team rater called FPL Rate My Team. Premium adds your move in the War Room, IQ for questions about your own team, your mini-leagues, and price-rise alerts the night before.
It is not the cheapest option here. Premium is £5.99 a month (the Founding Season price, 60% off the standard £14.99), or £59.99 a year. The sign-up offer is your first month free, with a card needed and cancel any time. FFIQ never asks for your FPL password, and it publishes its record: picks made before each deadline and scored on FPL's results, misses included. A Scout member can run FFIQ alongside their Scout membership.
How to choose
If you enjoy building plans and tweaking inputs, start with FPL Review's free projection model and see whether the solver is for you. If you want articles and a community, Fantasy Football Scout is built around that.
If you mainly want a simple free look, LiveFPL's planner and price predictor cost nothing, and the free team raters from Fantasy Football Hub and FFIQ will tell you quickly how your squad looks.
If you would rather be handed the move than build it, and you are happy to pay more for that, FFIQ is worth trying. Start with the free pages, and see if the calls make sense to you before Gameweek 9 or whichever deadline is next.

The questions people ask
What is an FPL solver?
It is a tool that takes projected points and searches for the best transfer plan over several gameweeks. The result depends on the quality of the projections it uses.
Is there a free FPL solver?
FPL Review lists a free projection model in its planner, and it describes itself as offering a transfer solver. Its paid access runs through Patreon, and we can't say exactly what each tier includes.
Do I need to give a tool my FPL password?
No. No tool needs your password to read your team, because your team ID is enough. You find it in the web address of your Points page on the official FPL site.
Is a solver better than an AI assistant?
They do different jobs. A solver searches for a plan from a model you work with, while an AI assistant answers questions about your team. Fantasy Football Fix has ChatFPL and FFIQ has Ask IQ.
Can I use FFIQ if I already pay for Scout?
Yes. A Scout member can run FFIQ alongside their Scout membership.
