The Best Tools For Planning Your FPL Wildcard

Short answer: For a free planner, LiveFPL and FPL Review both offer one without paying. Fantasy Football Hub and Fantasy Football Fix add AI transfers. FFIQ gives projections six gameweeks ahead and a chip call for your own team. Pick by whether you want a planning grid or a recommendation.

Key takeaways

  1. Try a free planner first: LiveFPL and FPL Review both list planner tools you can use without paying.
  2. Check prices yourself: the figures here were correct as of 25 October 2026, and several are sale prices.
  3. Use your team ID, never your FPL password. No tool needs the password to read your team.
  4. Plan the next few gameweeks, not the whole season, and be ready to change it when news lands.
  5. Decide whether you want a grid to fill in or a ready-made recommendation for your squad.

Your name and your FPL team name. That is all it takes, and we will have your answer before you have finished reading this sentence.

No FPL password, ever. We only read what FPL already publishes.

What a wildcard planner should do

The Wildcard is one of four chips, alongside the Free Hit, Bench Boost and Triple Captain. A planner exists to help you spend it well: build a squad, see how the fixtures look over the weeks ahead, and test transfers without touching your real team.

At the very least, a good planner should let you move players in and out across several gameweeks, show fixtures clearly, and give you some idea of how many points each player might score. Everything beyond that is a bonus.

One thing to remember: FPL publishes every manager's picks only after the deadline passes. Between deadlines, any tool reads the squad FPL last locked, so a planner may not show a transfer you made an hour ago unless you enter it yourself.

The free options

You can plan a wildcard without paying, and the free choices are decent. Fantasy Premier League itself is free to play, and several outside tools have free parts too.

  • LiveFPL: live rank, leagues, price predictor, planner and ticker are all free. There is an optional subscription to remove ads.
  • FPL Review: the free projection model in the planner. Paid access goes through Patreon.
  • Fantasy Football Hub: an AI team rating, though you need to give an email address.
  • Fantasy Football Scout: Assistant Scout covers key articles, news, community, basic fixture data and a team rating.
  • Fantasy Football Fix: a free account.

If all you want is somewhere to drag players around and look at fixtures, LiveFPL and FPL Review are the obvious places to start.

The paid options and what they cost

Prices below are as of 25 October 2026, and some are promotional, so check the current figure before you commit.

  • Fantasy Football Scout: Chief Scout is £3.25 a month, billed annually. It is a mix of articles, community, a podcast and data tools, so it suits people who like reading and discussion as well as numbers.
  • Fantasy Football Hub: Starter is £2.49 a month, billed yearly, which is a 50%-off sale price. It describes itself as an AI and expert platform with AI transfers, a team rating, a planner and podcasts.
  • Fantasy Football Fix: Premium is £3.48 a month, billed yearly, a limited-time price. It brings data tools, AI transfers, ChatFPL and articles.
  • FPL Review: paid access is through Patreon. It is built around projections, a planner and a transfer solver.
  • LiveFPL: free, with an optional subscription to remove ads.

FFIQ costs more than most of these, and we would rather say so up front. Its price is covered further down.

AI chat and published accuracy

Two differences matter if you are choosing between tools. The first is whether you can ask an AI about your own team. Fantasy Football Fix lists ChatFPL, which does this. FPL Review and LiveFPL say no. Fantasy Football Scout and Fantasy Football Hub don't list it.

The second is whether a tool publishes how accurate it has been. Scout, Hub, Fix and LiveFPL don't publish accuracy. FPL Review doesn't publish it as a figure. That doesn't mean the tools are poor, only that you can't check a track record for them.

If a record matters to you, it is worth asking each tool the same question: where can I see the misses as well as the hits?

How to use a planner without over-planning

A wildcard plan is a guess about the future, and the future changes. Injuries, rotation and price moves can all knock a neat spreadsheet sideways. Treat your plan as a draft, not a promise.

Here is a sensible way to work:

  • Pick your gameweek for the Wildcard and look at the next five or six fixtures, not the whole season.
  • Build a squad that is balanced, rather than one that only works if everything goes right.
  • Keep a couple of spare options on your shortlist for players who might not be fit.
  • Do the final check close to the deadline, when team news is clearer.

Remember that extra transfers cost four points each, which is why a Wildcard, with its free changes, is so valuable. It is also why you shouldn't burn through planning time chasing a perfect squad when a good one will do.

Where FFIQ fits

FFIQ is not a planning grid in the way LiveFPL or FPL Review are. It gives you projections for every player and the move for your own team before every deadline: captain, transfers, chips and line-up. It also has Ask IQ, an AI you can ask anything about your team. For the numbers behind it, here is our one-line description: every call combines 34 calculations with an algorithm that keeps updating as the scenario changes.

Some of it needs no account: a projection for every player six gameweeks ahead, predicted line-ups, the weekly captain and transfer calls, and a free team rater called FPL Rate My Team. Premium adds your move before every deadline in the War Room, IQ for any question about your team, your mini-leagues, and price-rise alerts for your players the night before.

Premium is £5.99 a month, the Founding Season price (60% off the standard £14.99), or £59.99 a year. Your first month is free, a card is needed, and you can cancel any time. We publish our record too: picks made before each deadline and scored on FPL's results, misses included. We never ask for your FPL password, as your team ID is enough. If you are a Scout member, you can run FFIQ alongside your Scout membership. There is more on the FFIQ wildcard page at /fpl-wildcard/.

How to choose

If you are on a tight budget or just want to experiment, begin with LiveFPL or FPL Review and see whether a free planner covers what you need.

If you want AI help with transfers, look at Fantasy Football Hub or Fantasy Football Fix, and note that Fix is the one that lists a chat tool for your team. If you like articles, podcasts and a big community, Scout is built for that.

If you would rather be told the move for your own squad, with a record you can check, FFIQ is worth a look. Whatever you pick, use the free parts first and only pay when you know what you are paying for.

The War Room

Now see it for your own squad.

Your account opens on the War Room with your squad: your captain, your transfers and your chips, already linked.

Questions managers ask

The questions people ask

What is the best free FPL wildcard planner?

LiveFPL lists a free planner alongside its live rank, price predictor and ticker. FPL Review also offers the free projection model in its planner. Which is better depends on whether you want a simple grid or projections.

Do I need to give my FPL password to a planner?

No. No tool needs your FPL password to read your team, as your team ID is enough. It is the number in the web address of your Points page on the official FPL site.

Can I ask an AI about my wildcard team?

Fantasy Football Fix lists ChatFPL, and FFIQ has Ask IQ in Premium. FPL Review and LiveFPL say no, while Scout and Hub don't list it.

Is FFIQ the cheapest option?

No. FFIQ Premium is £5.99 a month or £59.99 a year, which is more than the Scout, Hub and Fix prices listed here. Its first month is free, with a card needed, and you can cancel any time.

Why doesn't the planner show my latest transfers?

FPL publishes every manager's picks only after the deadline passes. Between deadlines, tools read the squad FPL last locked, so you may need to adjust your plan by hand.
