Semenyo Vs Gibbs-White
Two 8-figure midfielders, one favourable run each — our model still separates them by about four points.
The read. Semenyo (Manchester City, £8.5m) tops our preference list of the pair, and it isn't purely a projection story. Our model has him at roughly 36 points across the next six gameweeks, against about 32 for Gibbs-White (Nottingham Forest, £8.0m) — a gap of around half a point per match. Both are flagged for a favourable run. Semenyo's schedule opens with Bournemouth at home and Crystal Palace away, then Coventry at home, before the two genuinely awkward dates: Manchester United away and Liverpool away, either side of Sunderland at home. Gibbs-White's set is similarly weighted: Leeds at home to start, Liverpool away early, then Tottenham at home, Aston Villa away, Coventry at home and Palace away.
So the ranking is not "easier fixtures". It's that our model sees a bit more attacking ceiling in the Semenyo pick at the same slot in your team.
The nuance. The 50p price difference and the ownership gap matter more than the four-point projection edge. Semenyo is owned by about one in five managers; Gibbs-White by roughly one in eight. If you already have Semenyo, the case for adding Gibbs-White as a differential is real — you're buying similar projected output for less cash, at lower ownership, in a squad where he is a central creative focus. And four points over six weeks is inside the range where one penalty, one deflected shot or one rotation call flips the order. Treat it as a lean, not a verdict on quality.
FPL VERDICT.
- Semenyo — buy. At £8.5m he's the stronger of the two on our projections and the safer route into that favourable early run. The Manchester United and Liverpool away trips are the weeks to reassess, not to pre-emptively avoid.
- Gibbs-White — watch, and a legitimate value buy if you're short on funds. £8.0m for roughly 32 projected points with modest ownership is defensible, particularly if you need the saving elsewhere.
- Captaincy: Semenyo is the more plausible armband candidate in the home fixtures against Bournemouth and Coventry. Neither is a captain pick for the Liverpool away trips.
If you can only afford one, take Semenyo. If you can afford both, our model doesn't object.
