João Pedro Vs Foden

João Pedro Vs Foden

Two forwards' worth of points, two very different ownership profiles — and the gap between them is smaller than the price tag suggests.

The read. Our projections have João Pedro and Foden separated by barely a point across the next six gameweeks, which in practical terms is a coin flip. Both are rated as having a favourable run. Chelsea's schedule opens away at Fulham, then Brighton at home, before the awkward trip to Arsenal, followed by Hull at home, Brentford away and Bournemouth at home — four of six that look genuinely inviting for a forward playing in a side that should be on the front foot. Manchester City's block is comparably kind at the front end: Bournemouth at home, Crystal Palace away and Coventry at home is about as soft a start as the fixture list offers, with the trip to Manchester United, Sunderland at home and Liverpool away closing it out.

The difference is what you pay and who else owns them. João Pedro is 7.5m and sits in nearly half of all squads at 48.5% ownership — he's close to a template forward, and holding him is largely a defensive decision as much as an attacking one. Foden is 7.0m and owned by just 5.3%. Same projected return, half a million cheaper, and almost nobody else has him.

The nuance. Differential appeal isn't a free lunch. Foden's value in our model leans on City's opening three fixtures; the back half of that window, with United away and Liverpool away, is where the projection gets choppier, and midfield minutes in that squad are the least predictable part of the picture. João Pedro's projection is more evenly spread because a forward's route to points is simpler — he needs the goal, not the rotation lottery. If you want certainty of role, that matters.

FPL VERDICT. Foden is the buy. At 7.0m, with essentially the same six-week projection as a 7.5m forward owned by half the game, he's the cheaper route to the same points plus genuine rank upside from that 5.3% ownership. João Pedro is a hold — no case for selling a man on a favourable run, but no case for paying up to bring him in either, and the crowd already has him. If you own both, that's fine; if you own neither, start with Foden.
