Haaland Vs B.Fernandes

Haaland Vs B.Fernandes

Haaland and Bruno Fernandes are projected to score almost identically over the next six gameweeks — but they cost £3.5m apart.

The read: our model has Haaland marginally ahead, and by a margin so small it's effectively a coin flip. City's run — Bournemouth at home, Crystal Palace away, Coventry at home, Manchester United away, Sunderland at home, then Liverpool away — grades out as favourable, with only the last of those looking genuinely awkward. Fernandes gets a schedule our projections rate even more kindly: Hull away, Ipswich at home, Everton away, then City at home, Fulham away and Tottenham at home. Four of those six are the kind of games where a penalty-taking midfielder on set pieces racks up returns.

The nuance is the price gap, and what it does to the rest of your squad. Paying £15.5m for Haaland buys you the single highest ceiling in the game and, at 74.8% ownership, near-total protection from a haul you don't have. Fernandes at £12.0m and 48.7% ownership is the opposite trade: you free up meaningful cash for a mid-price forward or a premium defender, and you own a genuine differential against half the field. That's not free, though — a midfielder's route to big scores is more varied and less repeatable than a striker who only needs one touch. And both squads face each other in gameweek 4, which caps the upside of holding both.

The honest caveat: near-identical projections mean our model isn't telling you one is right and one is wrong. It's telling you the decision belongs to your squad structure, not to a points table.

FPL verdict. Haaland: hold — if you already own him, the fixtures don't justify taking a hit to move off him, and at three-quarters ownership selling is a bet against the field, not with it. Fernandes: buy, and the strongest buy of the two if you're currently squeezed elsewhere — the same projected haul for £3.5m less, with a softer opening three fixtures and enough non-ownership to actually gain ground. For captaincy in the opening weeks, Haaland at home to Bournemouth is the safer armband; Fernandes at home to Ipswich is the cheaper one.
