The call — Our mid-price shortlist has a forward at the top and a defender with the bigger raw projection — and that gap is the whole story. The read. João Pedro (£7.5m, Chelsea) leads our order of preference for the opening run. The schedule helps: Fulham away, Brighton at home, then Hull, Brentford and Bournemouth around a trickier trip to Arsenal. Our…
Players To Watch
Gabriel (£8.0m, Arsenal) actually projects slightly higher over the same window, in the mid-thirties, but a defender's job here is clean sheets, not upside, and his fixtures are middling — Coventry and Leeds at home either side of Aston Villa, Chelsea, Sunderland and Brighton. At 25.4% owned he is a shutout bet with set-piece threat attached, not an attacking engine.
Szoboszlai (£7.0m, Liverpool) is the value midfielder: a friendly run through Nottingham Forest, Ipswich, Fulham and Bournemouth after Newcastle away, projected around thirty points, and already in 45% of squads. Semenyo (£8.5m) carries the highest six-week projection on the list and a helpful early slate including Bournemouth, Crystal Palace and Coventry, but sits fourth in our order — the price premium and the crowded competition for minutes in a productive Manchester City attack eat into what that projection is worth per pound. Bruno G. (£7.0m, Newcastle) is the genuine differential at 8.2% owned with a similar projection to Gabriel, though his fixtures are only average. Gibbs-White (£8.0m, Forest) has the nicer run — Leeds, Tottenham, Coventry, Palace — but ranks last of the six for us.
The nuance. Ownership cuts both ways. João Pedro and Szoboszlai being so widely held means owning them protects your rank more than it grows it; Bruno G. and Semenyo are where the upside sits if you can absorb the risk. And a six-week projection is a range, not a promise — one blank week from a template pick hurts far less than one from a 8%-owned differential.
FPL VERDICT. João Pedro: buy at £7.5m — best blend of price, fixtures and projection in this group. Szoboszlai: buy as the cheap enabler. Gabriel: hold/buy purely for clean sheets, not points upside. Semenyo and Bruno G.: watch, with Bruno the better differential swing. Gibbs-White: watch.
