Semenyo Vs Gibbs-White: The Better FPL Pick

The call — Semenyo vs Gibbs-White: the half-point that isn't the whole story My numbers have these two separated by less than a point over the next six gameweeks — Gibbs-White nudges it on raw projected points, both landing around the 24-point mark. But projected points aren't the full picture, and my pick here is Semenyo.

Here's the case. Semenyo at £8.5m is now operating in a Manchester City side with a very kind opening run: Bournemouth at home, Palace away, Coventry at home, then Sunderland at the Etihad in GW5. That's four fixtures where City should dominate the ball and the box, and Semenyo is the kind of player who can go massive on his day — one big haul in that stretch would settle this debate on its own. Roughly 3 in 10 managers already have him, so he's edging towards template; skip him and a good week hurts you twice.

Gibbs-White is the value play — £8.0m, and hardly anyone owns him at just over 1 in 10, so he's a genuine point of difference. Forest's run is favourable too: Leeds at home first up, Spurs and Coventry at the City Ground, Palace away to close the window. And to be fair to him, my projections actually have him a whisker ahead over the six.

So why not just take the cheaper man? Because that whisker is well within the margin, and the shape of the points matters. Semenyo's route to a monster week is clearer — a City attack against Bournemouth, Coventry and Sunderland gives him more genuine haul opportunities than Forest's steadier, lower-scoring setup offers Gibbs-White, whose points profile is more "reliable 5-6" than explosive. Both face Liverpool away in this window, so neither dodges the tough one.

The honest caveat on Semenyo: City's attack is crowded, and a crowded attack means weeks where the goals land elsewhere. Gibbs-White is more clearly the focal point at Forest. If your budget genuinely can't stretch the extra £0.5m, Gibbs-White is a perfectly good pick and a lovely differential.

But if you're choosing on merit rather than price, take the bigger weapon in the bigger attack. My call: buy Semenyo.
