City's model profile going into the first six weeks is about as good as it gets: the league's meanest projected defence, the second-sharpest attack, and a kind schedule to go with both.

The read. The run — Bournemouth at home, Crystal Palace away, Coventry at home, Manchester United away, Sunderland at home, then Liverpool away — grades out as favourable at both ends of the pitch. That matters because it means City are one of the few sides our projections like as a double-dip: attacking points and clean-sheet points from the same source.

Haaland sits at the top of our preference list and it isn't close. At £15.5m he's the most expensive asset in the game, but our model has him clearing roughly 45 points across the six, which is elite output rather than merely good. At close to 75% ownership he's less a decision than a default; the real question is whether you can afford *not* to have him for the home fixtures.

Next on the list is Semenyo at £8.5m, projected in the mid-30s over the same window and owned by around one in five managers — the sort of price-to-projection profile that usually signals the best value on the board. Behind them, Matheus N. (£6.0m) and Gvardiol (£5.5m) are the defensive routes in, with Donnarumma (£5.5m) in goal. All three are backed by that top-ranked defensive projection, and both defenders sit under 7% owned.

The nuance. Defenders and keepers here are clean-sheet bets, not upside plays — don't buy Gvardiol expecting attacking returns, buy him expecting shutouts against Bournemouth, Coventry and Sunderland. And the fixture run isn't uniformly soft: Manchester United away and Liverpool away are the two hardest points in it, which is where triple-City exposure starts to look fragile rather than clever. One defender plus Haaland is a defensible shape; three City defensive assets is a concentrated bet on a single back line.

FPL VERDICT. Haaland: captain, especially for the home games against Bournemouth, Coventry and Sunderland. Semenyo at £8.5m: buy — the best projection-per-pound in this group. Gvardiol at £5.5m: buy as a cheap route to the league's best-projected defence, with Matheus N. the £6.0m alternative if you want the marginally stronger projection. Donnarumma: watch at £5.5m unless you need the clean-sheet floor.
