Chelsea's opening six look kind to the attack — and one 7.5m forward is the cleanest way in.

The read. Our model rates Chelsea among the league's better attacks — comfortably inside the top third — and their defence as one of the meanest in the division. The fixture list helps the front end: Fulham away, then Brighton, Arsenal away, Hull, Brentford away and Bournemouth reads as a favourable attacking run overall, with only the Arsenal trip standing out as a genuine roadblock.

João Pedro is the model's preferred route in and sits top of our Chelsea list at 7.5m, projected for roughly 32 points across the six — the best return of any Chelsea asset in that window, and he's already owned by close to half of managers. Palmer is the next pick at 9.5m, around 28 projected points, and is the more interesting differential at just 13% ownership. Below them, our model marginally prefers Caicedo (5.5m) to Neto (6.5m) despite Neto's slightly higher raw projection — Neto occupies a crowded, rotation-prone attacking slot, while Caicedo offers cheap access to a strong defensive base with the odd attacking return on top.

The nuance. The defence and the attack are not pointing the same way. Chelsea's back line is highly rated by our model, but the clean-sheet fixtures grade out as merely average over these six — Fulham away, Arsenal away and Brentford away are not games you bank shutouts in. That's the honest caveat on Sánchez at 5.0m: he's a good keeper on paper with a low-owned price tag, but the schedule doesn't turn that quality into a reliable stream of clean sheets in the opening weeks. Ownership tells its own story too: at 2% for Sánchez and 1.2% for Neto, the market is not pricing these as obvious picks, and our projections don't disagree strongly enough to fight that.

FPL verdict.

• João Pedro (7.5m, FWD) — buy. Best Chelsea projection, sensible price point for a forward slot, and the fixtures back him. If you already own him, hold with confidence.
• Palmer (9.5m, MID) — buy for the brave. At 13% owned he's the differential with the highest ceiling in this squad; the price demands you commit for the full run.
• Caicedo (5.5m, MID) — watch. Genuine cheap enabler if you need to free up funds.
• Neto (6.5m, MID) — avoid. Squeezed for minutes and role.
• Sánchez (5.0m, GK) — hold/watch. Good defence, ordinary clean-sheet schedule.
• Captain: João Pedro at home to Hull or Bournemouth, not the Arsenal away trip.
