Arsenal's opening six look kinder for goals than for shutouts — and our model still leads with a defender.

The read: our projections rate Arsenal as the league's strongest attack over the first six gameweeks, and the schedule helps — Coventry at home, then Aston Villa away, Chelsea at home, Sunderland away, Brighton away and Leeds at home reads as a very kind run for attacking output. Defensively they're also among the meanest handful of teams in our model, though the clean-sheet picture across those six is only average rather than a green run.

That gap explains the order. Gabriel (£8.0m, 25.4% owned) tops our preference list and carries the highest six-game projection of any Arsenal asset, comfortably clear of the goalkeeper. Raya (£6.0m, 29.8%) is next, the standard stack-the-back-line route into a top-four defence. Calafiori (£5.5m, 12.7%) is the value angle: a full £2.5m cheaper than Gabriel with a projection in the same neighbourhood as the keeper, and ownership low enough to be a mild differential. Gyökeres (£7.5m, 14.0%) leads the attackers, with Eze (£6.5m, 3.2%) behind him as the low-owned punt.

The nuance: "strongest attack" and "clean sheets" aren't the same bet here. Villa away, Chelsea at home and Brighton away are the sort of fixtures where our model expects goals at both ends, which is why the defensive outlook is merely average despite the high defensive ranking. That matters most for the premium defender — at £8.0m, Gabriel needs more than shutouts to justify the outlay, and a chunk of his projection assumes it. It's also worth being honest that the front line is a crowded slot: our model prefers Gabriel and Raya to Gyökeres, so the Arsenal attack is not automatically where you want your Arsenal money.

FPL VERDICT

• Gabriel — buy. Best-projected Arsenal asset over the window, and a quarter of managers already have him. Expensive for a defender, but the fixtures support it.
• Calafiori — buy, on value. Cheap route to the same defence, low owned, projection near Raya's.
• Raya — hold. Fine if you own him; the average clean-sheet run doesn't scream upgrade.
• Gyökeres — watch. Reasonable price for a fixture run this kind, but ranked below the defenders in our order.
• Eze — watch. At 3.2% owned he's a genuine differential, though he's last on our list for a reason.
