Players To Watch
The mid-price bracket is where this opening run gets decided, and our model's order of preference doesn't match the raw projections.
The read. João Pedro (£7.5m, Chelsea) tops our shortlist despite not having the biggest projected total on the page — the model likes the combination of a friendly opening schedule and a forward slot that isn't fighting a team-mate for the same returns. Fulham away, Brighton at home, then Hull, Brentford and Bournemouth inside six is about as accommodating as a £7.5m striker's fixtures get, with Arsenal away the one clear speed bump. He's already in nearly half of squads, so this is closer to a hold-or-confirm than a differential.
Gabriel (£8.0m) is next, and for a defender the case is clean sheets rather than ceiling. Arsenal's run — Coventry, Aston Villa away, Chelsea, Sunderland, Brighton, Leeds — reads as middling rather than soft, yet he still carries one of the strongest six-week projections in this group at a quarter ownership. Szoboszlai (£7.0m) benefits from Liverpool's kind stretch after Newcastle away: Nottingham Forest, Ipswich, Fulham and Bournemouth before Man City.
Semenyo (£8.5m) actually holds the highest projected haul of the six and the softest opening pair, but sits below those three in our ranking — read that as a crowded productive slot rather than a downgrade of his fixtures. Bruno G. (£7.0m, 8.2% owned) and Gibbs-White (£8.0m, 12.8%) are the genuine differentials, both projected close to thirty-plus points over six.
The nuance. Projected points over six gameweeks flattens rotation and role risk, and it can't tell you which of two team-mates ends up on set pieces or penalties. Ownership matters too: a João Pedro haul protects your rank rather than improving it, while a Bruno G. or Gibbs-White return moves you. Both statements can be true at once, and neither is a stat.
FPL VERDICT. *Buy* João Pedro at £7.5m if you don't own him — best blend of fixtures, price and uncontested attacking role. *Hold* Gabriel as a premium clean-sheet source; his fixtures are only average, so don't pay up expecting attacking returns. *Buy* Szoboszlai at £7.0m for the Forest-to-Bournemouth window. *Watch* Semenyo. *Watch* Bruno G. and Gibbs-White as the differential plays once you've secured the top three. Captaincy this week sits with João Pedro at Fulham.
